Hi I'd like to introduce myself. I'm Mysticcat and am in tears because I found this site! I have been suffering from a sore throat, excessive mucus, sinus congestion and a bunch of other stuff for weeks. I quit smoking 9 weeks ago....before these symptoms presented themselves. I quit because I wanted to I dont think these symptoms are a result of the quit. I was feeling pretty good until 4 weeks ago. I've been on 3 antibiotics over a 4 week period because of 1st a sinus infection then strep. But I truly believe I suffer from GERD!

I had been searching the net for about 3 weeks trying to find something that would help convince me that there was more going on. Then I googled it "hurts my throat when I bend over" and there; in front of my eyes was someone describing Exactly What I've been feeling. The strangling around my neck, something stuck in my throat, my ears aches. Well you guys know the rest. I really did cry when I was reading. Now I'm relieved. Oh and feel badly for those feeling this way too. I never really got heartburn though.

Anyway, I have a question. Should I see a GI or an ENT? Or do the treat different parts of this disease? I am so eager to feel better.
Right now I'm trying apple cider vinegar morning and night also priloscec. I know should have spoke to my primarycare Dr about that first but I can't see him until Thurs. Trying for relief. I'm also eating a very soft, bland diet. Mostly smoothies and not fat ice cream shakes and ensure. I hate the food stuck in my throat.

I'm sorry for the long post. And thank you in advance for any help.

Welcome to the forum! I would start with an ENT, as they seem to know more about LPR than GI doctors. Have you looked into diet changes?

Thanks for the welcome. Thanks for suggesting an ENT too. I work in an office building with one so I see if he'll see me. I started changing my diet about 3 months ago, more along the line of not eating processed food and eating more fruits and veggies. I wasn't really thinking I had GERD so now I'm researching diets and stuff. Funny the more I learn the more I realize I have symptoms all along and never thought much of them. I really hope to get this under control. The pain and discomfort is making me depressed.
Thanks again for your help.

Welcome to HealingWEll and the GERD/Heartburn Forum.

Difficulty swallowing can be caused by a variety of issues from the mouth to the stomach. Best bet is to start with your primary care doctor who will help differentiate if the best referral is to ENT or Gastroenterology.

As mentioned above, ENTs might be better for advice on LPR, but you might end up wanting to see both an ENT and a GI. Just know that it can sometimes take more than one or two appointments with more than one or two doctors to get to the bottom of exactly whats going on.

Thanks for your replies. I'll call my primary Dr in the AM. Let him know I'm thinking of going to an ENT and a GI. I know it may take a couple of visits before a Dx but I'm hopeful now that I found this site. I'm even bringing a copy of the post I read and say "see this is me"

Thanks again and I'll let you know how it goes.
