hello all,
I must say within the past few days I have been reading posts and they have eased my anxiety.
Since I was 15 I had acid reflux. Took prevacid for 3 yrs or so. Was switched to zegerid after endoscopy...everything was fine..then took nexium until just recent. Within the last two months I've had bad chest pains and I'm a nursing student so it wasn't that I didn't know the difference between chest pain and indigestion. I went to the er one night and they were useless. I would take a 81mg aspirin and most of the time it would go away. Since last monday(two weeks ago) my nexium was working and then it stopped. I went to primary who did ekg and it was fine. Did blood work and was fine except my crp was 5.9 I just found out. Anywayburning was so bad, throat chest stomach. I couldn't eat anything without pain. Also somehow was affecting my ears. Wednesday last week went to gastro and saw a diff doc and he gave me dexilant 60mg and set up endo. Then went to cardio doc and did ekg and said he thought might be my gerd..but I'm scheduled for echo next week and he gave me carafate liq.
Had to move up endo because pain so bad. I'm 23 and had to call out of work and miss classes. On sat after endo I was feeling better with dexilant. They found one spot of erosion and saaid everything else is fine. Erosion could be eosonophilic or viral waiting for patho. Sat felt ok and sunday felt better. Monday took dexilant inmorning but by night horrible burning. So bad took 2nd dexilant at midnight and waited and hour then took benadryl because I felt my throat was closing up like it had. I also had since seeing gi a weird pain in throat like something pressing or something stuck. Tuesday took nothing but had period and took two tylenol x strength spaced out. Called gi doc and he gave protonix and I bought tums. Wed felt bad but managable but had to take a tums. Thursday felt horrible non stop took protonix and 3 tums
Today I felt pretty good. No severe burning no tums but at night I'm burning a bit but also getting chest pains back. I don't understand! Any advice would be great.

Hi Mel,
Welcome to Healing Well!  Sorry to hear you're struggling.  You're definitely in the right place...there are many members her who have similar problems.

There's one thing that you post brought to mind.  I'm not sure if your doctors have given you specific guidance for taking your PPIs.  Most don't, in my experience.  Here's a great article I came across that will help you make the most of your PPI and other acid reducing medication.  Check it out:

I read it after having taken PPIs for many years and learned a lot.  Check it out and see what you think.
If you can get your PPIs to be more effective by taking them correctly, you might just get more relief.
Glad you've joined us!
Good luck!

Thanks Denise. I read the article and I'm going to try some things. I just hope to figure out why the pains and burns won't go away.

Hi Mel,
It's worth a try.  Good luck with all your tests...I hope the pain subsides and you get feeling better soon.
