Hey guys im a 23 year old guy and ive been having this problem for 6-7 months now.

It seems to be centred around when i eat and at night when i try to relax.

When i eat i feel like the food sits in my oesophagus and when it gets to my stomach it sits heavily and sometimes leaves me in pain and nauseous and light headed/dizzy, exercise usually makes it worse but not always. I also suffer from acid reflux badly even when sitting upright or standing.
But it also feels like i get strange feelings in my heart. How to describe it....like a spasm or laboured beating. sometimes it feels like my heart skips a beat or just stops for a moment then i get a wave of light headiness and then it goes away as my heart begins beating again. Ive had numbness with it in the past but i think it could have been caused by anxiety as i don't experience numbness anymore. I do however get chest pain which sometimes feels gastric but other times not as well as some discomfort in my left arm/shoulder.
I have been into A+E with this multiple times now and have had heart tracings and blood tests done and everything seems to be normal, but by the time they get me hooked up to the machine the episode has passed so if there was anything wrong with my heart DURING the episode it wouldnt have shown...
Im on 40g Emozul at the moment and have been through multiple doses of Lanzoprazol and omeprozol and they dont seem to be doing the trick. Im really worried about my heart, that there is something seriously wrong and the doctors are missing it! If anyone has had similar symptoms or has been diagnosed with anything, any help, advice or information would be great. Sorry if that wasnt clear. Im really at my wits end with this now i just want to know whats wrong and try and sort it out!

Thanks for your time

Chris

You are certainly not alone. I have the exact same symptoms nearly every day. In the beginning I was really freaked out about it, now I'm only worried, not terrified... sad I actually started a thread about it a few weeks ago. You can read it here:

My doctor tells me it's because of stress, but it also happens when I'm totally relaxed and absolutely stress free. It never happens on an empty stomach, so I know there is a connection. I was referred to a cardiologist to have a Holter done, so I guess I will get some answers from that one.

I have searched the Internet for information about it, and we are not alone. There are multiple reports about heart palptations and the feeling of skipped beats in combination with GERD.

Hi Chris and Ilea,
Welcome to Healing Well!  We're not doctors here...just peers who are learning together and providing support.  Another member recently put up a post regarding the vagus nerve.  When I read your question, Chris, the vagus nerve came to mind.  I'm glad to hear you've sought medical attention for this.  I know how frustrating it can be when you don't find the answers you were looking for.

Check out JustPassingThrough's very interesting and informative post about the affects of vagus nerve stimulation.

Again, glad you've joined us!
Best wishes,
