Went back for my 5 wk post NF visit with the surgeon. The pain I have been experiencing are esophageal spasms - hurts like the devil. She said according to my pre-surgical tests, I have an irritable esophagus that spasms. If it doesn't get better (hopefully by the 3 month mark), she said we may consider going back in & either stretching the esophagus some or cutting the lower esophageal muscles so they don't spasm so hard. Has anyone else had these spasms or had to have anything done because of them? Did the spasms resolve?

erica,
Did you ever have "lump in the throat"? If so, did mag help with that?

I did have the lump in throat ( a really annoying feeling) and the magnesium did help with that. I no longer have that symptom (it's stayed away a while now which is more than I can say for the changing symptoms that come and go without any reason). Give it a shot. Add another supplinent to your collection!

Josie - In my experience with esophageal spasms over the past year they usually start with calcium channel blockers, then nitrates. Now I am taking an anti-spasmodic but, I am scheduled for Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy in May. Hopefully this will relieve the pain and I will be able to eat again. Good Luck to you.

When I had them after my esophagus tear they gave me some type of BP meds, I think nitrites, that helped some.

Take care,
Bill

Thanks for the info everyone. The spasms seem to mainly happen in the evening - dont know why that is - but they are bad! Hopefully they will resolve on their own.

Not to sure I'd let them just cut anything, the more I think about it?
