Hi There!

I had a Lap Nissen (fundoplication) done on myself 2 years ago.

I havent had any heartburn since 2 years ago...except for some other symptom(problem).

Since the day of my surgery I started hiccuping really bad. I could not eat afterwards, and lost a lot of weight. I used to weigh 80 kg's, but after the surgery I weighed 58 kg's. I couldnt eat because there was air going into my stomach and struggled to escape. I later realised that if I put my finger down my throat I burp and the air escapes. I then feel better.

2 years after this surgery I still have air trapped in my stomach once a week, and have to put my finger down my throat to let the air escape. I dont bring up any food, only a very load burp.

Are there any other people experiencing the same "problem", or is it normal?

PS: I cant drink any soda's - gas gets trapped in my stomach and it hurts really bad.

Hi williamveeden,
Welcome to the Healing Well Wrapped Club!  There are quite a few wrapped friends here, and hopefully others will be by to share their own experiences and support.  I had the surgery a little over four years ago, and I can say I never have had any trouble with gas bloat.  I had a couple glasses of champagne last summer to celebrate my son's engagement, and that created bloat, but I can drink soda without a problem.

Have you discussed this issue with your surgeon?  It sounds like your wrap may be too tight.  Has your surgeon ever considered stretching/dilating it to loosen it a bit?

At your stage, swelling is a non issue, so it seems to me that the bloating problem should have subsided.  It's normal to have an occasional bloating issue, but not a daily occurrence.

Have you ever gotten a second opinion?  It might be time to do that.
Glad you've joined us!
Good luck,
Denise

I too didn't have any real bloating issues except when I drank on tap beer. I agree with Denise that you should talk with your doctor about this.

Take care,
Bill
