My sister's doctor wants her to take Zofran for her nausea but it doesn't seem to work for her. Now my sister love Phenergan because it works best of the two drugs. Now her doctor has said that Phenergan can cause long term heart problems.

I wanted to know who also has taken Phenergan and for how long? Do you have any heart problems?

Hi S Kendrick,
I know that Joy (couchtater) here took Phenegran to deal with post-op nausea.  I think Bill (opnwhl4) used it as well. Hopefully they'll be by soon to weigh in.  Another option that is my favorite anti-nausea drug--Compazine suppositories.  I've had two stomach bugs since my surgery four years ago.  I had Zofran as well, but once I was sick, nothing was going into my stomach.

I'll send the link to this thread to Joy so she knows her expertise is needed.
Best wishes,
Denise

I'm here.
I took pheragen for 5 months post op and off and on for the first year of recovery.

I don't have heart problems per-say. I have been told I have a mild hardening of my aorta and the left ventrical (Lower) of my heart is slightly enlarged. I don't know if it's from pheragen or my weight or Lupus.

Hi S Kendrick,
Here's a link from a thread about anti nausea drugs:

If you scroll down you'll see a post with Bill saying he has use Phenegran on and off for 6 years.  He's still hopping!  I expect he'll be by soon to offer his opinion personally.  I emailed he and Joy, and see how fast Joy responded?  She's a great forum friend!

Hope your sister is having a better night!
Take care,
Denise

I have used Phenegran for over 6 years and for about the 1st years after my nissens I would say I used it about 6 to 8 times a week. I still use it today and actually had to use it twice today. We have a bug going around the family.
The doctor who prescribed it to me is the surgeon who did my lung and last redo surgery. I have had no side effects what so ever. I had a routine stress test and heart work up last year due to heart issues in the family and the docs say my heart is great I just have hypertension that I've had since I was 24. It's a family thing.
This med is the only one that has worked for me and my wife. We didn't get any relief with zofran and I did have side effects with Reglan. Muscle twitches and such.
My pharmacist is very quick to let me know if there is a problem with any meds I take and she has never said anything about Phenegran, but did warn me about reglan. She actually told me she refuses to take it or allow her family to take it. She knows about my families heart issues too and would say something if she thought it would be a bad idea to take it.

Hope this helps and I am happy it works for your sister.

Take care,
Bill
