Oh hi, I am new LPR patient as well, hmmm.. I can honestly say with this disease, it's long battle, you have to be patient and know that there are many options to approach such illness, as far as success stories; I wish I could contribute on this, but I can not but all I can say is have hope and it will get better. You have come to right place, since I joined healingwell, I have learned so MUCH INFORMATION then any doctor has to offer, all I can advice you on is read up as much as you can about LPR through these forums, and take some of the information such as the reasons that cause this (malfunction valve, anxiety, nerves, SIBO, etc.). Really just take all these reasons and see what's is your underlying cause and once you establish that, then you can figure out the right treatment such as (high akaline diet, koufman diet, fast track diet, low acid low fat diet, alkaline water, gaviscon advance, carafrate, (ppi might be your enemy in my case it was it made my symptoms from bad to worse, so be careful on how long you are on these pills but I can not advice you not to take it for some people it works for some people it doesn't), take all the right tests in order to root out your cause, so far I had endoscopy, barrium, and waiting for my 24prob, and then I will talk to my doctor on what we can do in order to manage or cure this and if things get worse, surgery is also there such as NISSEN, TIFO, LINX (I am really interested in this surgery in the future once I get better insurance), also avoid all the bad foods until you feel better or avoid them over all, and elevate that BED!!!! it helps with us LPR'ers. I got wedge pillow helps me support my head and chest, don't use extra pillows make things worse either raise the head posts of your bed by adding 2-3 bricks, buy elevating bed posts, add wood blocks or books until it's 6-8 inches up, or buy foam bed wedge pillow like I did giving me 6-8 inches of support. But these are some of the extensive things I have learned from this forum and online, so really do your research and I wish you good health and transition, always hear for you if you wana talk, I know it's sucky disease! but we can do it!

P.S. maybe you can also ask people for some of their opinions on what they do to help with their lifestyles such as diet, suppliments, herbs, honey, aloe vera, some of the things I have come across, until you find what works for you.

WISH you the best!

Thank you so much for the advice ! so far I haven't even been diagnosed with LPR, i diagnosed myself, I went to my doctor back i february were this all started and I have been doing alot of research, anyways from the begining I went to my doctor, I was complainging about a tight throat, and a feeling of something getting stuck in my throat (ANNOYING SYMPTOM I STILL FEEL IT TILL NOW) he wanted to try nexium for a month and see how i go, so I as I was trying the PPI , into the second week in I stopped the nexium 40G cause it was somehow affecting my appetite, and didnt eat much, i literally had to force my self, I lost weight :/ , so I stopped taking it, and went to the doctor again after a week, he said thats unusual, so he put me on zantac and ive been on it for 2 months ow, its not helping much, but atleast its not affecting my appetite, but still the symptoms of a globus sensation is still there constantly, I burp alot, my throat clicks sometimes too which really scares me ! the zanatc only helps a little bit, so I went back after a month and he refeered me to an endoscopy in may ! (Im a bit nervous for that lol )

P.S when I saw the gastrologist he thinks NOTHINGS wrong me :/ and he said he thinks I have an anxiety problem WHICH I DO ! I worry too much about my health, and he said after the endacopy I should feel better :/ cause he thinks it wont show silent reflux despite my symptoms :/ I dont kknow what to expect,

Sorry for the long reply ! Thanks for reading man, I appreciate it

Yeah dude, you can not let them make you think oh its reflux do all the right things and you should be okay, there is more to story for your condition everyone is different, I read people have LPR because of nerves, some because of slow emptying of the stomach, some because damaged vocal chords, there is just so much that is causing it, i am having all these tests done so I can figure out the best treatment for me and once I graduate college with good job and insurance I am opting for surgery! I can not live in pain from some the stories I read about this condition, but I just think you have to fight for answers and you are welcome any questions about anything are welcomed! Trust me this disease had me searching the internet for days, and now I am well informed on finding what's causing mine but I can come up to my doctor with such theories until I do my 24prob!
I won't let you ruin me, if there is will there is way, day by day and I shall make it.

I think nerve damage in my throat caused it lol, before this happend I had an anger problem and would always constantly get angry for the smallest things, and one time I screamed with anger I had a tight throat and it hasant stopped from there lol, I think my nerves need to be balanced, if my endoscopy doesn't reveal any reflux acid affecting my throat, which it will mean its definatley nerve damage, maybe Ill be prescirbed with elavil to balance out the nerves in my throat and let my laraynx heal, I hear that works in a week, or if you dont want to go medication, theres a thing called arnica montanna 30x that is rumoured to heal the throat tissues back together ( not too sure ) :/ but the oly medication im on now is zanatc, they havent even diagonesed me yet, they say the endoscopy will show everything !

Btw what are your symptoms?? my worst symptom is that globus sensation feeling (so annoying lol)

Hahaha mine is redness in back my mouth, white coated tongue(pepsin/bile from acid coming up) in morning, diminished smells, like one nostril will be open and next won't be, globules sensation is the worse for me it's not necessarily a lump but tightness over all, I think I am night time refluxer, when you are supine refluxer which means night time it's bad because you have no control over it haha, I just did extensive research and I am bring up all the points to my doc after my tests, but I feel you on the nerve thing, I had anger problems too I wasn't like psycho or anything but I tend to be a very stressed person in general and back in the day hormones, and being teenger haha you can see how I did that damage to myself, but yeah I had an endoscopy done it showed mild irritation and yes it shows everything in the esophagus did you get your larynx checked out? I got mine done in office with the fiber optic 15 min one, he saw some redness, so I want to heal that soon but the thing that sucks about throat issues it takes like 6 months for it to heal, so I might not opt for ppi but maybe zanatac twice a day and very strict diet for 6 months and see how it goes, I just hate the acid reducing drugs because they lead to more problems and sometimes they don't even help LPR yeah you are reducing the acid but you are not stopping the pepesin and bile coming up some things you want to read up on is koufman diet or her book dropping the acid very insightful for LPR'ers it just sucks that this happened to me at my 20's makes me afraid of how long I got LOL

That sucks man,lol I havent checked nothing yet, I only did a blood test which came back normal, the only symptom that I match with you is that Notorious Globus sensation feeling lol that thing is mean, and sometimes when I get up inthe morning I have a bit of throat clickig which is annoying this whole thing is annoying, but we have to be patient ! To be honest, I think no one should do surgery, remember the body has the power to heal itself, like you said we have to be patient doctor koufman she is very good doctor, I read about her before, she prescribes her patients with elavil if the cause of the LPR is nerve damage and anxiety (most liley me) I trip out so quick lol, I hope I wont have to take that, antidepressants are risky in my opinion !

Look at this way my friend, ALl we need to do is heal our throats, it sounds simple but we need to find the cause and attack that ! cant wait to find out my problem,

P.S I might take this multivitamin called Blackmores ALive mens formula, its a supplement that supports your immune system and diegestive system, its got all the enzymes to help break down food ! might consider that soon !

your right man, we can beat this thing, the globus sensation plays with your mind lol if i can rid of that Im happy, I dot mind the other symptoms LOL I want to swallow clearly :D

Hahaha, yeah it's frustrating disease in general, you should seen me when I first found out I had it, but I was like gosh, I can not let this consume my life, I just was sad because I had to give up my favorite foods and explaining to people how I can't go out with them especially us being in our 20's lol kids our age and college in kids in general want to socialize haha, but I think there is more to life then food you know? I just have to convince others that, that is the hardest part in my life now.

I really think you could have anxiety/ I will pray for you it's not LPR but we won't know until you get those tests done, and if you have to like take those anti-depressant/anxiety pills def take smallest dose and I would cut those in half, I am with you dude on the natural medicine that's why I refused to go back on PPI, I just need to find out what's the cause of my LPR and stuff in order to move on, are you following a diet right now?

OH gosh I wish I lived near her, none the doctors in VA or my area are really experts on this whole thing haha, sometimes I have more info on things then doctors they are quick to like write me a perception paper haha.

But surgery is my last resort I haven't began treatment yet so who knows what future holds? one thing is this disease taught me life is too short, I am so much more centered now then I ever claimed myself to be before. If your sensation is there while you eat it's nerves, if it goes away when you eat like mine it disappears it's LPR she said something like that in her book. who knows I am not professional but throwing some ideas haah so you can have more insight on it LOL

I feel like we are going to be fight buddies, keep me posted!

No worries dude ! Will do, I HOPE I DONT HAVE LPR, I hope the endoscopy says my esoghegal sphinter is fine, But bro, try not to do sugery man, a nissen is irrevasable and its not guareenteed to make you feel better, too risky, just take it easy, all we need to do is heal that layrynx then the globus will be gone, I had a friend who had the same problem, hes globus was gone, not sure if he was diagnosed with LPR, but he symptoms seemed simialr to mine, By the way Im from Australia im no were near dr kaufman lol, but yeah I hope its anxiety cause I have a history of going thorugh ALOT of emotional stress !

Do you have trouble swallowing dry foods?

I still eat pizza lol but Ive completly cut out soft drinks like pepsi, energy drinks etc !

Oh wow you are like super far, I am in the states, in the eastern part of it, like the new york area but little southern from that. You guys have good docs out there right? The area I live in not so much, hoping after college to find some better doctors, that's if I get job haha! Yeah I shall pray for you, this illness is so time consuming, like when I first started having it, I was constantly so preoccupied on what was gonna happen to my body because you know how it will lead to really bad things, but yeah I am not athlete I wish I am 21, 120 pounds, lazy, skinny girl who rather sleeps than exercises but I walk now just to like keep my weight at good weight. Are you an athlete? You know what I find funny how people who are so healthy, even in this thread people were eating well still get such bad disease.

Haha yeah it's like LPR take over in healing well, oh I know I have pepsin the white stuff on my tongue is constant, and I am looking into linx in the future I just hope I am good candiate I think you got linx right @ JPT?

Viper: hahah not healthy at all! If only I could cure my emotional issues then I could have prevented all this. LOL

"Others check the LES and say its normal but most LPR reluxers have transient relaxations of the LES that dont coincide with the test point." This part is probably true in my case I think sometimes when I burp out of no where it's probably the relaxtion of my les or ues but I might talk about this to my doctor.

do you know the link for the test?

I think it does, I do not know for me we will see, if my tests come back normal I shall take the pepsin test which I know I do not need because pepsin is on my tongue every morning indicating two things I am night time reflxer (super dangerous) and I might have loose/relaxing valve. So I do not want to say surgery is for me but it's an option I just want to move on with my life weather surgery gives me 10 yrs or so but LINX is reversible the nissen is not!

Yeah not in my case either but who know what happens in the future, sometimes we must to what we gotta do! But gosh I never even thought a day in my life would come where I would have condition and if things progressed to worse I would be thinking surgery is the answer to my problem, life is just funny sometimes! //shakes head
