Hello everyone. I am new to this forum, and need to speak to people who know what I am going through. I got diagnosed with Barretts esophagus about 8 months ago after thinking I had a thyroid issue! I have never experienced any heartburn, but apparently acid has been eating away at my esophagus for years. They put me on omeraprozole 40 mg a day. it makes me feel like crap, I still have acid. It doesn't matter if I eat, don't eat, drink only water, whatever. I go to bed with a "chunky feeling" I wake up with one. I am so frustrated and dont know what to do. I don't want to end up with esophageal cancer, I have 3 kids I would like to be here for. Anyone familiar with the LINX operation? I am considering flying out of state to meet with one of the docs that perform it. I am really depressed about this darn acid that won't go away!!!

you know I think I heard of some people reversing their barretts some of the things I heard that help is freeze dried black raspberries or powder, turmeric and eating well, with aloe vera changes it back to a somewhat normal esophagus but I do not know where I came across these but maybe you can ask this question on reversing the barretts esophagus, but if you have LPR yeah I can understand the frustration I have been recently diagnosed with this, and been miserable ever since scared of getting cancer loosing voice nd stuff, we are all here for moral support if anything. :)
I won't let you ruin me, if there is will there is way, day by day and I shall make it.

GERD/LPR 2 months yappay! :) LOL

Woke up this morning at 4am. feel like I have a huge lump and vomit in the back of my throat. Sore throat, stuffy nose, post nasal drip. Love this new life I have now.........
Thanks Roah for your reply. I actually heard some things about aloe vera and I think I will go on the hunt for it today. I feel really bad that you are experiencing this at such a young age. Looking back, I guess I had GERD for years and years, but never knew what it was cuz I never had heartburn. Just a "chunky" feeling. What are you doing for relief of symptoms and is it working for you? They told me I would be on PPi's for the rest of my life, but I am not willing to do that. Just want someone to fix me :(

santy,
Surgery......well I'm not a huge fan, however if you feel it's right for you, I would advise you consider all options. Linx is somewhat new and nissen has a longer history of being done. Whichever you would choose, make sure it's done by a dr that has done "A LOT", and I would go to a large hospital not some local hospital (just too risky for major surgery).

As pink said, there are reports of ppl revearsing barretts but not alot of them. If it can be done (I believe I've done it) it requires time and discipline. You must start with diet changes! Taking natural healers as well, mankua honey, aloe vera, turmeric would be a good start. I will try to locate my old post for you.

Here it is......However I no longer take ppi's but you may need to in order to help heal for awhile. Also, because of the fast track diet I longer eat potatoes or whole gains. Again these won't cure gerd but I feel aided in my healing of esphogus.

1.diet changes; all the normal.....eat 90% chicken and turkey for meat (fish if I could choke it down). Sweet potatoes, raw carrots, broccoli, spinach, blackberries, whole grains, . I stay away from soda, coffee, choc, chips, dairy, pizza, beer etc.
2. spirulina (loaded with chlorophyll)
3. sleep inclined on left side
4. manuka honey
5.aloe vera gel (lakewood brand/or georges has NO citric acid)
6. carafate (coats and protects from more damage)
7. Tums or gaviscon as needed
8.dexilant (ppi)
9. zantac in the evening (h2 blocker)
10. dgl (when i can't time the carafate)

PS: I know the honey and aloe will not stop the gerd, however they are proven healers so I believe they played a huge part in my progress of starting to heal my LES.
(I don't believe my les has healed fully at this time 5/3/13)

Thank you so much for the info!! I do follow that diet pretty close except the beer. I don't eat bread or pasta. and eat really good. I drink a ton of water too. no pop. but I do love 1 cup of coffee in the morning and I figure, why not? I feel all full of acid when I wake up anyways. I do have some zantac and I will start taking it in the evening. I do have dgl and take it 3 times a day. I am looking into the aloe at a health food store today. I just feel like this acid is SO out of control, I am going crazy! I think my LES is not functioning whatsoever and can't wait to go back to the gastro in a couple of weeks to demand more tests....
