Hey, I'm a 22 year old male, and I think I'm seeing yellowish stools? I really can't tell though. I tried posting in the IBS forum, but it occurred to me that yellow stools aren't too typical for IBS. But for GERD, yellow stools can happen.

I've never been diagnosed with GERD, but can anyone with GERD that's seen yellow stools tell me how it is? Is it brown with slight yellow tinge? Or is it a very obvious yellow, like honey mustard or even a yellow crayon. I'm not sure if posting pictures of it is acceptable here, so I won't.

But my stool looks kind of like a dirty brown with yellowish maybe? I'm not sure if I should be concerned yet or not.

Thanks in advance.

Stool color is generally influenced by what you eat as well as by the amount of bile — a yellow-green fluid that digests fats — in your stool. As bile pigments travel through your gastrointestinal tract, they are chemically altered by enzymes — changing the pigments from green to brown.

Consult your doctor if you're concerned about your stool color. If your stool is bright red or black — which may indicate the presence of blood — seek prompt medical attention.

Thanks for the reply. I have an appointment with my GI on Friday the 17th. I was just wondering if anyone here with GERD has had yellow stools before, and if they could let me know if it was just slightly yellow, or really yellow.

Yellow stools mean less or absence of bile. It can be from diet or your body not digesting your food well. Though not an emergency if it persists it does bear further evaluation.

Yes- Thanks for not posting a picture. We get it-- and no visual is neccesary. I've had similar problems. I have a sludgey gallbladder and severe reflux. How your liver processes fat through the use of bile can effect stool color. I wouldn't worry though. Most doctors will tell you not to worry about such issues. Blood in the stool would be cause for concern. Changes in diet, stress etc.. can all affect the digestive process.

The Yellow Stools:
Although it may be affected by the food you eat, the yellow stools hapen when someone is suffering from IBS where the blood stains mixed with black stool to form brown yellowish stool. My advice can be that consult the medical specialist for more information. I once had it the medical practitioner said that it is not so harmful but treatment is needed because it can be caused by the diet you eat. That was true because shortly after I have changed the diet from too fabric or dry ration it has vanished. Balanced diet is very important to our lives. I thank You
