Hi I am new to this group. In 2003 I had gastric bypass surgery and lost about 150#. I was very happy until a couple years later I started having horrible pain above my belly button off and on. I would go to er and they could never find anything except an ulcer so they attributed it to that and gave meds. The pain would go away with iv pain meds in er so they would send me home. this went on until june 19th 2008. On this day I had the horrible pain again only this time it didn't go away. Long story short it ended up being a hernia and volvulus. Basically my bowels looped through the hernia and then twisted around on itself and cut off the blood supply. I had emergency surgery (after waiting hours in the er) and they did a right hemicolectomy, resection of cecum, ileum, ileocecal valve, and transverse colon. They had to reverse the gastric bypass so that I wouldn't have a colostomy bag. (yes, I have gained about 100# since then) I had septic shock and almost died. I made it through and have had pain, constant diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, gas, bloating, and short bowel syndrome since. I also have een diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus and have severe reflux. I have failed all the meds they have given me over the last 5 years to reduce/block the acid. I had manometry and a 24 hour ph test in March 2013 that showed I have a motility disorder and they recomend nisse n fundoplication. I live within 20 miles of about 6 hospitals but I have been referred to UC san Francisco for the surgery because of my background. (about 120 miles from me)
