Hi all

I have an endoscopy in a week to test for esinophillic esophagitis. The Dr never mentioned whether I need to come off PPIs for the test. I cant call the Dr directly, only a secretary who just gives general advice to come off PPIs for endoscopy, but as I've already had one endoscopy this one is just to take biopsies of the esophagus and I dont want to come off PPIs if I dont have to.

So does anyone know whether you need to come off PPIs for this?

Thanks

You don't "need" to unless the dr wants you to. My last endo was done when I was on ppi's. They might not want you to take it just the day of the test.

I have never been asked to stop them, including when I was tested for eosinophilic oesophagitis. I think it helps to find any Helicbacter if you can come off them, but most of us are too unwell off meds to consider it!

Andy,

I believe the others are correct however, call your Drs. office and ask to speak to the triage nurse who should be able to get you the info you are looking for.

Hi Andy when I had my last endoscopy in November I had a letter from hospital telling me of my appointment , time & date. They gave me a phone number of the hospital dept to ring and confirm the date was ok for me. When I rang they then asked what pills etc I was taking and told me how many days to leave them off. Certain drugs seem to have different days. So if I were you I would ring the hospital department that is going to do your endoscopy and ask. Best wishes Rita
