I know that sounds crazy. Ok. so 3 years ago when I was pregnant, I had this happen all the time. When I got heartburn I would also feel a sharp pain in the back of my head, on the lower right side base of my skull and neck, I guess. My doctors said that no they hadn't heard of that before, but it was probably one of those "weird pregnancy things" and I went a long with it. It seemed to be true, since after having my daughter I didn't get the head pain along with my heartburn anymore.
Well today it started up again, and I cannot find anything on it. When the heartburn pain spikes up the pain in the back of my head spikes too. I was thinking maybe it was the vagus nerve, but I couldn't find any info on vagus nerve and head pain.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is this completely abnormal?

Hi K-Bri,
Referred pain can be hard to pin down.  The vagus nerve came to my mind as well, since it's involved with so many functions and parts of the body.  When I would get very bad heartburn, I would get pain in my jaw and ear, but not the back of my head.
Still, everyone is different, and if you reported it to your doc and he/she isn't concerned, I'd chalk it up to one of those quirks unique to you alone!  I'd bet someone else has experienced it, but I haven't heard it yet.
Take care,

I also experience tingling and pain at the base of my skull along with my heartburn. They happen simultaneously. It took my awhile to realize that it was only occurring when I experienced heartburn.

I'm a 42 year old male. I've found I can only eliminate the heartburn and pain in the back of my head by sticking to a vegan diet. No meat, very little salt, no sugar, no dairy. All fruits, veggies, nuts, and berries.

I created a userID just to comment on this thread. I have experienced something similar for years: a tingling sensation (not pain) at the lower right rear of my head during heartburn. Sometimes the tingling even arrives before I feel heartburn. This doesn't always happen, but it happens enough for me to have looked it up to see if anyone else experienced the same. I am a male, aged 47.
