So today I went to see my GI doctor that I started seeing last year. I kept a log of my symptoms and let him see the list. Here is what happened:
1. He wants me to switch from Nexium to an H2 blocker. He thinks that the PPI long term use could be messing with my digestive system, and he believes I could be suffering from IBS. He instructed me to try Pepcid Complete just to see. If I feel horrible, he said go back on the Nexium, but he wants to make sure that the Nexium is not causing problems.
2. If I feel horrible and have to go on Nexium, he wants me to call him and come back in to do a breath test for SIBO, which is the theory behind the Fast Track diet that I have been following.(but still on Nexium which is not recommended.) I actually was surprised to hear this coming from a GI doctor as a lot of them dismiss this.

I went in to the appointment thinking nothing would be different but I am glad that he is thinking outside the box. I have always wanted off the PPI drugs but was too scared. I tried once cold turkey and I felt terrible. Hopefully I will be ok with the H2 Blocker. I would prefer to take that anyways.

Well, some progress I guess lol.

Hi Erica,
Glad to year your GI doc was really listening to you and responded with some new ideas.  Good luck with the switch from Nexium to Pepcid.  Hope it goes smoothly!
Good luck!
