Hello All,
I am new here, but have obtained some good information reading the posts on this site. I had a question I was hoping for some feedback.
I have suffered form GERD for many years now, and have used Prolosec for almost 20 years. I have loved it because it works; but,
it has come at a cost ( calcium.depletion). I also know that it can cause other damage when used long term. Thus, I am trying to get off Prolosec. I am currently trying Pepcid, but it is not working very well as I am experiencing a lot of acid reflux.
Prior to taking Pepcid, I took GDL Licorice Root tablets which were OK and seem to work better than the Pepcid.
Has anyone taken GDL Licorice root with good results?
Thanx ,Hector

I take DGL, it offers some relief but it isn't a "cure".

Hi Hector,

I found it best to reduce the Prilosec or any ppi for that matter, a little bit at a time. It took me 3+ months to get off my twice daily Prevacid by opening the capsule and taking out a little bit at a time. Gradually taking out more each week. Finally I was able to switch over to an h2 blocker. I still would have some hb breakthrough, but it was manageable with over the counter antacids got me through. If you have been on Prilosec for 20 years, it really does need to be a gradual process.

Currently I am still taking Zantac am and pm, but I have reduced that from 600 mg a day to 225 mg a day. It's a slow process, but I'm hopeful.
Diagnosed GERD 4/2011, gastritis & esophagitis 5/2011 (healed now) and gastroparesis 6/2011
Medications: PPI-free 4/14/2013, stepping down Zantac
Domperidone 10 mg 3 times a day
