I'm not sure how I continue to get worse and worse but it's happening...I went from lifting, running and smiling despite having reflux to hunched over and in a fetal position in a matter of 2 months.

Lastnight I had an apple ale, which I tolerated quite well up until lastnight, but I drank it and everything felt fine. Than 30 seconds later the bottom right side of my abdomen area lit up in horrible pain, this pain than shot through to my stomach, did a swirl and than up my esophagus. I was on PPi's at the time and I knew there was no chance this was acid. Gaviscon Advance did nothing to quell this pain, eventually it went away.

Than today, I've just been having horrible stomach gargles and upper abdominal pain. I feel like I want to puke, but If I do I know I'll lose my voice for a week... It's happened before. Than for about the last hour I have been having a burning pain right under my belly button. I have an appointment on wednesday with my Gastro Doc, don't know what to do... No amount of tums relieves this pain, but it makes the gargles worse... I was told I had hypersensitivity in my esopghgus by my UW-Madison doctors.... I don't think that applies to my intestines..

I soo wanna go to the ER... But a 1,500 dollar bill is no fun

I know this is a long shot but have you tried drinking some baking soda to "release" the gas?

Hey Doggbones,

No, I haven't ever tried baking soda. I'm thinking it was trapped gas or somekind of obstruction in my intestines. To me, it felt like after I took my baclofen, my pylorus valve was shut and wouldn't allow bile back into my stomach, so the bile was just burning away at my intestines/pylorus.

Anyways, I did a follow up with a local GI doctor because of this incident... He told me to come in even though he had nothing good to say to me. I told him that a surgeon found excess amounts of bile in my stomach after a 15 hour fast, and that my pylorus antrum had irritation to it. I told him that ppi's make me feel worse, I have contstant upper abodminal pain, I feel like vomitting all the time, that I spit green liquid in the morning, and I have a strange sour/bitter like taste in my mouth.

He told me that "bile reflux" doesn't exist and he would not prescribe me any medication for it. At this time I told him that apparently it does exist and I showed him my mayo clinic bile reflux print outs.

I ended up buying some supplements that have slippery elm bark, chamomile, and marshmallow extract in it. Also, I quit cold turkey on my 80mg of prilosec a day. There is a little bit of rebound, we'll see if that passes.

Hey Doggbones,

I'll be in the madison area for work for a while, I was wondering if there's any good nature/vitamin stores to go to?

I'd stay away from the ale. And you are sure right about the bile reflux. I used Questran and Colestid to absorb excess bile after my gallbladder surgery, but found apples with the peel has helps me with the excess bile the last couple years.

Take care,
Bill

Sixness,
Ugh.....I swear, talking to most dr's about our unresolved gerd issues is like trying to convience them of bigfoot!

Bill has mentioned Questran and Colestid for "soak up bile", it might be worth a shot, just be careful as they can cause blockage. I'm going to give kelp supplements a try for bile issues. My thought is it's a alginate which binds to bile and is the "stuff" in gaviscon advanced (UK) that makes it work.

Whole foods (on University Ave, I believe) is good or GNC at the East or West malls. Baking soda gives me a nice big release of gas (burp) if I sip a couple swigs.

I struggle with sour taste daily.....and it sucks!

Bill, I was wondering what makes you believe that apples with peel still on helps with excess bile? I willing to try anything.

haha yeah.... I definitely could agree with your statement about bigfoot. I often refer to myself as a medical mystery to my friends and family. I'll have to check out the GNC or the whole foods on university ave sometime next week.

The kelp idea is interesting. Will have to pick those up, they don't seem too expansive. On a different note, I'm starting to feel like a walking pharmacy with all the supplements and medications I have lol.

DOGGBONES

I was reading somewhere and they mentioned apples with the peels helping with some gut issues. More fiber and the peels help move things along. I tried it and it helped me a ton with the bile induced D and dumping.
Now I do eat a lot of apples though. I go through about 5 lbs in 2 to 3 days. I eat the Gala, Fuji, and Pink Lady types.
When they are in season here we have 2 apple trees and I just grab them when ever they are ripe. Seems the crisp apples work best for me.

Take care,
Bill
