I saw my surgeon today conerning my test results. The radiologist who conducted my barium swallow indicated that I had a "small" hiatal hernia. My surgeon (who conducted my upper endoscpoy) said-- "not so." Apparently, when I was scoped, the surgeon noted that my hernia is much larger than appears on X-ray. The good news is that I can now schedule my surgery. The surgery will be in mid August. Tomorrow, the scheduling department will call me with the specific date. I'm still anxious about the surgery. My doctor assures me that the Nissen wrap will be loose-- so I'm holding on to that statement. In the mean time, I'm working out, making sure that I'm in the best shape possible for my recovery.

Welcome to the forum, I.V.

Good for you for getting in shape. Don't over-do though, and get the stomach pushed up and stuck above the diaphragm. Remember to eat healthy too.

There are loads of threads about this surgery on the forum. I hope you will read the information at the top of the list and also look up old threads. You can search using the search box at the top of the page.

Alcie- I have been engaging in excercise on a fairly regular basis. Unless I become a Sumo wrestler, I don't think that there's any activity I do that will endanger my stomach. I typically shoot baskets, do lay-ups, walk and use a Nordic track. No full contact sports. I do, however, appreciate the warning. I'll probably have to be very careful about how I exercise during the recovery period. I imagine that it will be several months before I can resume any vigorous excercise.
