Can some of you please share your weight loss timeline & lbs please. What I am looking for is:

1) How many lbs did you loose in the first 2 months?
So far from May 6, 2013 to today 6/24/23 (49 days) I have lost 37 lbs. By my calculations I am loosing 1.3 lbs per day, which is way more that the "safe" 2 lbs per week.

2) How long ago did you have your surgery and are you still loosing weight now (looking for 6 months & longer)?

3) If you still are loosing how many ponds have you now lost to date?

4) If you are still loosing weight is it still as fast coming off as when you first had the surgery?
I am trying to find out if I should continue to see 1.3 lbs a day drop off continue 4 months down the road or will it tapper off to maybe the safe "1-2 lbs" per week.

I realize every story is different but if I have enough data I can pretty much figure out what to expect.

I always talk to my surgeon but of course she is not a former patient of the NF so she has no real "patient knowledge" for instance. When I asked her when can I expect to wear bra's again she told me I was the first patient to tell her that I couldn't. I explained to her that I found a forum and learned a lot of what to expect as a patient and I found the group had been very open, honest and very informative and that's how I learned about the bra so I was sort of prepared.

I thank God for everyone on this forum. This forum has been a blessing to me.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Hi Lady.G,
I'll do my best to answer your questions:

1) How many lbs did you loose in the first 2 months?
So far from May 6, 2013 to today 6/24/23 (49 days) I have lost 37 lbs. By my calculations I am loosing 1.3 lbs per day, which is way more that the "safe" 2 lbs per week.
I lost 15 pounds total, which was likely mostly achieved in the first three months.  Of course, these amounts depend upon how much you were eating before the surgery, and how much you weigh.  Thinner people lose less weight, heavier people tend to lose more.  It's just a matter of how much you had to eat to maintain the weight you were prior to surgery.

37 pounds in two months sounds excessive in any case.  Still, you went through two surgeries, and probably have some muscle loss in addition to fat.  The fact that you had complications likely, led to a longer time without eating, and a loss of appetite, as well as the typical weight loss from eating small quantities after surgery.

2) How long ago did you have your surgery and are you still loosing weight now (looking for 6 months & longer)?
I began very gradually gaining weight by 6 months (it started once I began eating normal quantities), and gradually regained the weight I'd lost.

3) If you still are loosing how many ponds have you now lost to date?
I only lose weight when I try.

4) If you are still loosing weight is it still as fast coming off as when you first had the surgery?
NA

Have you discussed your quick weight loss with your surgeon.  If not, I would. It's probably a result of all the problems you had, and it will take your body longer to heal and regain its balance.  Hang in there.  I know you've been through a lot.
Very best wishes,
Denise

Thank you Denise

Yes, my surgeon and I talk at least twice a week (office visit and I will call her on her personal cell or she will call me) I can also text her when I have a concern. She told me at this point not to worry because my eating habits have changed a bit (I informed her that my eating habits now are a lot better then prior to surgery. I have always had a bad eating habit even as an infant my parents told me I did not like the bottles or table food I just refuse to eat. I am still like that and can honestly say if I eat 300 calories a week that is a good week.

I am have very small meals through out the day. I am still on clear liquids but I have been introducing foods as of this week I am now having chicken noodle soup.

I will be starting Yoga around the middle of July 2013 I hope I can keep the weight off. I was very small 00-4 until 2001 and as the GERD got bad the weight went up and all sickness that could happen due to those two issues did. Based on my BMI I need to loose 112 lbs. to-date I have lost 38lbs. So I am okay with loosing the weight I just want to know if anyone else has experienced the weight lost the same way.

This form has been a blessing to me. Thank you so much.

I don't have much of a timeline to talk about yet because I'm only one week post-op but I've lost seven pounds so far. Admittedly, I was about 20 pounds overweight to begin with, though...

first two months I lost about 2 stone in weight. But, I think most of that came in the first month. Was a few years ago now so hard to recall exactly.

about 7 or so years ago. Not losing weight now, unless I exercise and diet.

3) If you still are loosing how many ponds have you now lost to date?

N/A

N/A

that sounds like a radical weight shift. I would suggest eating more puddings etc... My own weight loss felt quite radical too. Even lost a bit of muscle in my upper body. but now, I am fine, I go to the gym when I am motivated :D I also eat regularly most things I want. I get very little reflux now and don't need meds.

Lady G.

When I had the esophagus tear and nissen redo within 6 months of each other I lost almost 50lbs. Unfortunately that was quite a bit of muscle as well. I have managed to gain back 25lbs since December of 2011. Again I lost a lot of muscle too and that has been the hardest to regain.

I was unable to eat or drink from 2/28/11 until end of July 2011. I had my redo 8/24/11 and with the recovery diet I didn't start to eat "normally" until December 2011.

I was on TPN and had a feeding tube while I was unable to eat or drink though, so my body was getting some nutrition.

With the surgeries you have had your body is using a LOT of calories to heal.

Take care,
Bill
