Hi all. My recovery has been going pretty well up til this morning. I woke up with severe gas pains. At least that's what I believe t is. My stomach feels like a balloon that wants to pop. I'm kinda scared. My bowels are moving fine. I don't know what's causing this. I've taken 3 gasx strips. I don't know what to do. I can get a tiny bit of relief from lying down. Does anyone have any advice? I don't know if I should go to the doctor.

Good Morning,

It does sound as if what you're experiencing is very normal post-op.  Be sure to stay away from foods that are gassy as much as possible. BEANO (an enzyme supplement that helps break down vegetables and make them less gassy) helps my husband with his gas and I know of  other members here in the forum who also use this product.  Hopefully you can find something like that where you live.    Be sure to stay away from carbonated beverages and don't ever drink from a straw.  All these types of things put more air into your stomach and add to bloating.

Things will gradually improve over time, however, remember to call your physician or your clinic triage if you feel the need.  HW can never take the place of your professional medical care giver.

Kindly,
Kitt

Goose-(love to type that since I am a Navy aviation vet)

As Kitt said it's very common. I find that laying down can help things move along, try both sides. It could be from something you ate yesterday or maybe you were swallowing air last bight. It has happened to me a few times.

A heating pad has helped a lot too when this happens.

Take care,
Bill

Thanks Kitt and Bill for the advice. I ended up calling my surgeon. The pain became so bad that I couldnt even stand erect. They told me I had to get checked out at the closest ER. I was reluctant but went because honestly it was the worst gas pain I'd ever felt. I started to question if it was gas. They did a CT scan and everything looked good. They gave me some pain medicine there, which knocked out the pain but made me so dizzy. So I declined a prescription for it.

I've been pretty good about my gasx and even beano. Now that you say it I did try something new yesterday, whole grain bread. I know it might be healthier, but I'm shelving that stuff for a long while. I just hope one day I can return to eating a more wholesome diet. Lying on my left side usually helps. Today it made a minimal difference. How long was it before either you saw these issues disappear?

Thanks for the advice. You are keeping me sane after this surgery.

Goose-

I had these type issues off and on for about 6 months, but they became less frequent as time went on.

Take care,
Bill
