Hello Everyone,
I am new here and I am terrified.
My name is Stephanie. I am 29 years old and I was just told I need a nissen asap because my reflux is damaging my esophagus. If I do not get the surgery, as you all probably know, cancer is a likely outcome.

My tests show that I am a great candidate for the surgery. I am not overweight, I have normal stomach and esophageal function and am otherwise very healthy. It just looks like my LES valve doesn't work at all.
I trust my doctor, and my second opinion and it looks like surgery is in the cards for me very soon.

Any advice would be helpful on how to prepare for this and get through it.

I feel really out of control today. I woke up wishing it was a bad dream, but at least I have answers to why my throat burns and all my food comes up. At least its not all in my head like I thought. I just keep wondering if I did something wrong or how I could have prevented this...I just dont know. :(

Has anyone ever had a nissen and had a successful pregnancy and not had to have it redone? I am worried about that as well, not that I have been trying to get pregnant.

Thank you all for your time.

Welcome to Healing Well.

I have pasted a link to our resources page of Denise's recovery journal. She has a lot of good information there. If you have any other questions please post them.

Take care,
