I'm new on this site but I've been browsing the forum for a while.

I'm 27 years old and since early 2012 I've been clearing my throat frequently and coughing up sputum. I was put on Lanzoprazole 15 mg earlier this year which seemed to cure this but I was also getting chest pain (felt more sore than painful).

Two weeks ago I underwent an endoscopy and the results said that I have stage A esophagitis and mild gastritis. The biopsy at the esophagal junction mentions the presence of "glandular gastric cardia like mucosa".

Does anyone know what this is? Is this a precursor to Barrett's esophagus?

Thanks,
Tom

I'm sorry Tom, I really don't know what this means - why don't you email your consultant and ask him if he could explain in layman's terms exactly what it means. If nothing else it will put your mind at rest.

Hi GC1pink, thanks for the reply. I'm seeing my GP next wednesday so I should be able to ask him then. He gave me the report today and told me I had a lot of inflammation and prescribed 15 mg Lanzoprazole (morning) and 150 mg Rantidine (twice a day).

Unfortunately, the report was so technical I didn't have time to ask about all the terms since I only get 10 minutes to talk to him. I'm not getting much luck on google either.

Tom-

Welcome to Healing Well.

I looked up the terms you posted and found this out. It's basically the start of barretts. The wording is confusing and a report I found even stated the wordings like that are different from doctor to doctor.

Take care,
Bill

Hi Bill,

Do you have links to the information you found? Did they mention if Barrett's is inevitable from this?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom-

I just googled glandular gastric cardia like mucosa. It comes up with several different studies about the terminology and how they are wanting to change it to be the same though out the medical world.

Take care,
Bill
