Last year I went 6 or 8 months with a burning mouth and throat. During that time I had no voice. The pain was so intense I actually fractured some teeth while I was sleeping.

That's the bad news.....the good news is.....it's resolved, or at least seems so.

I ate gentle foods and sipped water constantly. NO acidic foods....EVER.

I am so grateful to be where I am right now, last year I would not have believed the pain would ever have ended.

THats great to hear that you are getting better!! Did you have a diagnosis as to what caused this?? Did your throat burn?

LPR.....throat and mouth felt as though I had swallowed acid. My ears also hurt.

I only ate turkey and water for weeks. Things calmed down, then I introduced new foods one at a time. You can tell within hours if you can't eat something...the burning comes back. I eat lots of things now, but no tea, dairy or acidic food. Life is good and I'll trade food over no pain any day.

Get the pain relieved and then experiment.

Oldknitter, well, i dont think i have LPR because i see no relationship to what i eat and the pain. My pain comes on in the afternoon around 2 pm and as i use my voice it gets much worse. My voice and pain are always the best in the morning and gradually get worse as the day wears on. I suspect i have irritable larynx instead. How in the world did you keep from getting malnutrition on just turkey and water?? Did you have a diagnosis from a doctor of LPR?

Yes....although it took several doctors to find one who thought my symptoms were indicative of LPR.

My voice was often better in the AM as well....it was the burning mouth and throat that were almost intolerable. The acid from your stomach can reek havoc with your soft tissues.

I try and meditate every day now, am very careful what I eat and I drink lots of water.

Your question about what I ate....the doctor suggested I start with one, mild food that I could tolerate and not introduce too many others until my throat and mouth began to heal. I found the turkey was a safe food for me and once I started feeling better i was very reluctant to add any new ones. My husband made me try.

Eventually I found I could tolerate a lot of different foods and I feel so thankful the pain is finally gone.

Someone on this site said the doctors are reluctant to diagnosis LPR....although I don't know why this is true...I believe it. However, once LPR became my diagnosis....I tried everything suggested to me until I finally had relief. Hang in there.
