First of all, i'm sorry for my crapy english. Writing from Sweden because of the lack of information on internet regarding my symptoms.

I'm 23 years old, tried quitting smoking many times but because of my anxiety it's really difficult.

about 6-7 months ago i started to get the feeling of a lump in my throat, also food would feel as it got stuck in my throat and it gave me a feeling for burping but then the food kind of comes back up again (although not bits). I tried Omeprezol (Swedish name, i think its the same as Losec and you call it PPI). This time it got better.

2 months ago i got a appendicitis inflammation and had it removed.
After the surgery my stomach never got into its normal behavior. I have to go on the toilet more often etc. Blood tests normal however.

The lump in my throat came back and got even worse. I started taking 20 mg PPI (Omeprezol) x 2 sometimes x 3/day but this time it's not working except the pain went away. My throat started gurgling and i burp a lot specially after drinking/eating. It feels as the food gets stuck in my throat and when i burp it feels like the food is moving in my throat although not coming back up.

The lump feeling comes and goes but is more often now then before. Always many times each day. Sometimes better in the morning.

I'm waiting to see a Ear, throat and nose specialist 6 september but i'm just so sure now it's cancer as the PPI dont work.

I do suffer from anxiety and is really afraid of cancer i general but this symptom is real. I fear the treatment just for throat cancer, the surgery feels like something out of a horror movie. My doctor suspect i have IBS but the PPI should work for GERD symptoms?

Would appreciate any tips or information you could give me because i'm really going crazy here. It scares me that my symptoms just keeps getting worse, feels like typical cancer development and if not GERD according to internet it's nothing else then cancer it could be sad

Lizzin-

Welcome to Healing Well.

First off I am quite sure you do not have cancer. your symptoms are classic for GERD.

Some things to try is to raise the head of your bed about 6 inches and don't eat anything 3 to 5 hours before going to bed. Also avoid acidic foods.
I am not sure that an ENT will be the best doctor for you to see, but they may be able to help. I would suggest seeing a GI doctor as they usually handle reflux issues more.
There is no one treatment for GERD. Not all PPIs work for people. Some people get absolutely no relief from them also.
Anxiety does make GERD worse, so please get that under control and stay away from Dr. Google. It will do nothing except make you feel worse. Let the real doctors do the tests and see what is going on. I had severe reflux for 14 years or so before I went with surgery to fix my GERD. In that time I did develop Barretts, but even with that my chances of getting cancer is less than 1%. With your age I'd say your chances are even less.

Take care.

Hi,
I wouldn't worry about cancer, it does sound like reflux. You have to remember that if the reflux has been getting into your throat, then the throat is injured, and it can take weeks, sometimes months for it to recover. My ENT consultant tells me, that when this occurs you should be on double the dose of ppi's that you were on for 3 weeks before you will start to see an improvement, and after a horrible flare last month, it has indeed taken me 3 weeks to be able to swallow properly again.

The lump in the throat feeling is just your throat muscles spasming trying to protect itself, it will go away.

Please don't look on google, especially when you have anxiety, as you will read only the horror stories and frighten yourself. Like all the others have advised, be calm and wait and see what your consultant says.

Try drinking chamomile tea, rinsing your mouth with a salt gargle 4 times a day to help the healing, and try taking Gaviscon Advance 4 times a day.

Do let us know how you get on.
