After my upper GI Endoscopy - doctor found a hiatal hernia and redness caused by GERD. He said he would not recommend surgery since it is not severe. My life has been completely ruined due to these problems, Since my symptoms have gotten bad, I have a low tolerance to exercise, out of breath easily, elevated heart rate and blood pressure (could be pressure against vagus nerve?). I forgot what it feels like to feel good/normal. I am stomach pains, nausea most of the time. I've tried most medications for a period of time and the side effects were worse than the pain I had.

for those of you that have had the surgery, would you do it again? If you did have issues with your vagus nerve and increased blood pressure/rapid heart rate, did it help after the surgery? Thank you!!!

Welcome to Healing well.

I have had the surgery, nissen, and would do it again in a heart beat. I have had 3 of them, but my case is quite unique. I recommend reading some of the recovery posts going on right now and also look at the resources thread at the top of the forum. Denise has a great recovery journal and my story is there also.

I didn't have any issues after recovery with vagus nerve problems.

Take care,

Every symptom you have listed above mirrors my experience. My BP was off the charts especially after having a big meal. I was a problem patient for many docs since I was in excellent shape. My regular heart beat was in the 40s and I had a runners build. My regular doc sent me to all kinds of cardo specilists and had numerous tests completed all to come back normal.

Over the course of time, my GERD/HH symptoms became worse and I made numerous trips to the ER thinking that I was having a heart attack. The ER docs ran many of the same tests as my cardo docs (test results were normal) and sent me home the same day. Finally my doctor recommended me to a GI doc and after running several tests, he finally recommended that I have the fundo surgery.

I am by no means saying that you need surgery, but I would recommend getting a second opinion from another GI doc. The increased heart rate and BP (if left untreated) could cause damage to other parts of your body.
