I guess if I'm measuring recovery from my Nissen wrap in microns, then I would have to say that I have made a tiny amount of progress today. Although I still swallow with great difficulty, today was less painful, with fewer spasms. I feel like I have a lump in my throat. There has also been a slight decrease in my abdominal pain. Right now I'll take what ever I can get and call it a success. I'm still wiped-out. I take my pain meds faithfully-- and believe me, I still need them. I'm still very sore-- but I noticed less pain for the first time since I had the surgery.

Ian,
That's good to hear.  Just take it a day at a time...these early days aren't fun, but it's all worth it in the end!  Surrender to your recovery and go with the flow.  If you feel yourself resenting or fighting what's happening, remind yourself that it's not a helpful thing to do--re-adjust and accept.  Your body will heal in its own sweet time, but it will heal!
Happy healing,

Is your throat sore like when you have a cold? If so you can try the spray that numbs the back of your throat some. Along with your meds staying hydrated and relaxing while you recovery is very important.
I had severe pain with my 1st redo and understand where you are coming from. I needed pain meds for a month or so. So it's not uncommon.
Have you been getting your walks in? I know you are wiped out, but walking will actually help get your energy back sooner.

Take care,
Bill

Bill-- I wanted to walk, but it was too hot and muggy to walk outside, so I took a stroll around the house. If I had to choose which symptoms I would prefer to first resolve, I would prefer to swallow. I can take pain meds but they're of no use if I can't swallow them. The swallowing issue is my most troubling and distressing symptom. I'm hoping that the swallowing will improve a little each day. My sore throat is in fact like having a cold. I appreciate all the feedback. I know that my recovery is going to be slow and bothersome, at least for awhile. I'm holding on to the encouraging comments from this forum.

Ian-

The sore throat spray like chloraseptic or a pharmacy's brand will help. It slightly numbs the upper throat. Also gargling warm salt water can help, but the spray works better. I definitely know what you are feeling with the sore throat. It seems like people who need the pain meds more also have a worse reaction to the breathing tube. with my 1st redo I had a horrible sore throat for about a week.

Get that throat feeling better and I bet you will turn the corner and feel better. I would stick to walking around the house for a while. Especially if it's as hot as it's been here.

Have you tried ice cubes or chips? That may help some as well.

Take care,
Bill
