Hi everyone, im having my nissen fundoplication which was carried out in February 2012 taken down. I have had nothing but problems since the surgery. You can look over some of my posts to get some idea whats been going on.Basically my surgeon did not carry out manometry before the operation and said it was not necessary?
After a long battle with my surgeon I decided to go and find another surgeon who might help. I found another surgeon who carried out all the tests including manometry and it turns out only 50% of my esophagus is not working.
So im now preparing to have my nissen takedown and redone to a 180 degree wrap ( originally 360).
This is a great lesson for anyone out there preparing for surgery, please get all the tests thoroughly  carried out and if your not sure about your surgeon,go elsewhere, even if it means travelling long distance. Barry

Hi Barry,
Yay!! I'm so happy you found another surgeon--one who listened and took your suffering seriously. Thank you for reminding everyone of the importance of pre-op testing. It is definitely critical to the ultimate success of your surgery.

All too often we get members who try not to have the manometry because they fear it will be too difficult. And with its difficulty (and it is challenging, yet very "doable") comes critical information than can ensure the success of your surgery. Listen to Barry, and get ALL the testing. If your surgeon doesn't think it is necessary, consider seeking out another surgical opinion.

Barry, the main thing is that you are on your way to fixing the problem created by your first surgeon. All the very best of luck to you! We'll be here to provide support and encouragement as you recover from your redo. You'll have Bill, our resident redo expert, on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Congrats are in order for sure.
Very best wishes,
