I am trying to get off Prilosec and Zantac . I have been on them over a yr. STopped for
about 3 mo and it came back.
I want to try to DGL Licorice . Has anyone had success with this and stopped the drugs?
I did the Aloe Vera Juice as well. Not sure if it worked or not. I go through bouts of this on
and off but usually do not have reflux. I get gas and pressure in my chest that I relieve
with Alka Seltzer. It usually goes away in about 5-10 min. But last night it lasted an hour. I bend over and i can feel the fluid and food coming up my throat. I have more LPR
but this gas and burping is so uncomfortable. Sometimes it does not happen for wks and then it comes back. I do drink coffee. One cup. But I checked all my prescription meds and vitamins and minerals I take and most of them cause either reflux or indigestion.
Even taking the Prilosec can cause rebound symptoms.
I do not suffer terribly but this has been going on for over a yr on and off. I have anxiety and depression . I became anxious when these symptoms first appeared. Now it is a constant thought every day.

I didn't want to respond at first because sometimes the power of suggestion can make something not work, but since no one has responded I thought I would tell you my experience.

I not only did not like the taste of the DGL Licorice but it did not help my heartburn. Doesn't mean it won't work for you though! Good luck!

That's ok...any feedback is welcome. I have read some testimonals of people using it and swear it helped. I have one person I know who has reflux and she uses it and says it helps. I will try anything ...Sometimes I think if I just got off all the medications and vitamins and minerals it would go away by itself.
There are some medications I need like my levothyroxine and my pravachol but the other stuff for anxiety and depression I think makes all of this worse.
thank you for your response

It's very inexpensive compared to medications. I ordered a bottle today from Amazon. I love licorice and crave it when my stomach is upset. This supplement doesn't have all the extras found in normal licorice candy. I'm excited to have learned about it on this site.

I'd say it's worth a try if you have a little money to spend on it.

i too love licorice and would eat too much of it. I had no idea that black licorice could elevate your blood pressure. Good thing mine is always low. But they take out that component in this DGL licorice that causes spikes in your BP.
I am looking forward to trying it to get off the prilosec. The one good thing that has come out of this
is that Prilosec causes your magnesium to be depleted. So I have been on Mag for a yr now and one of the benefits is that it lowers your cardiac rate. Mine has always been on the fast side starting at 100 to 110
at rest. Now with taking the Mag. it is in the 70's and 80's. It can also cause your B12 to deplete as well so I am taking supplements for that as well. If I can take this med off my list of medications and find something more effective I am willing to try anything.
Good luck with your taking this as well. Let me know how you do.
