A couple of things: I'm 18 days post Nissen. I've noticed that I have a lot of various internal spasms and twitching. Is this part of the recovery process? Also, I know that gas and bloating can be problematic post Nissen. Sometimes my gas pains are sharp and stabbing. I usually just ride it out until the pain passes. Should I be asking for specific anti-gas meds from my physician or using OTC drugs? What have others from this forum don?. Is the bloating and gas a long-term, permanent side-effect from the surgery or will that eventually go away with time?

Ian-

Yes the spasms and such are normal. There were a lot of nerves cut to do the surgery.

The bloating will go away, but it takes time and patience. I only know of people using OTC gas meds.
I used ice and or heat on my belly to help with the gas and spasms.

Take care,
Bill

The spasms are my biggest complaint!
I get two kinds in my stomach and some in the muscles themselves, the hiccups, which were really painful in the beginning and another kind that almost feel like I have to burp but my stomach just sits there and flexes and squeezes...
I still get twitchy ribs though, sometimes its sharp and I have to stop and breathe...all kinds of weird stuff. It gets lots better though, I am a little over a month out and now feel so much better.

Stephanie Jean-- Yes, "twitchy ribs" is an accurate description. That's what I experience.

Currently I dont have a whole lot of pain, but I can feel my diaphram "pinch" it like stings when I take a deep breath in. This was because I sneezed like four times a day ago and I still have not recovered from it.
Its weird stuff.
It will go away though. Promise
