Hi all,

I have been told that I had 91 weak acid refluxes (upright) during my PH test, is that a lot? My longest lasted 28 mins - and could it cause oesophageal spasms?

Would you all care to tell me how many reflux episodes that you had during your PH test please.

Thank you. :-)

I think i had a similar number. I had close to 45 acid and 45 non acid with the longest at 128 mins.
I cant find my paperwork, but I know I was pretty close to that.
I had like no reflux laying down, it was all during the day.

Hi StephanieJean,

Many thanks for replying, can I also ask what your dermeester score was please. Mine was 10.85 on a non symptom day - typical!

I had the pH probe procedure done twice. The first time in 2010 showed 47 episodes of acid reflux and 45 of non acid reflux, and claimed that I had mild reflux that was being controlled by PPIs. More than anything, I hate this test because of how much it alters your daily routine and how much confidence it gives your doctors that your reflux is not that severe. The second time I had it done this past March, my symptoms were worse and the test recorded 156 instances of acid reflux during the day and 0 at night. For some reason my doctors obsessed over this and would not let go the fact that I could have such a superior number during the day and zero at night, so their response was that they thought the test was wrong and that I couldn't have possibly had that much reflux. I still think I had more than that during the day and certainly more than 0 at night. I also can't seem to find my demeester scores if they were included in my reports.

I had over 400 on my last one before I had the nissen done. My GI gave me 2 options, double my already double dose of PPIS or surgery. She then told me she only recommends the surgery for me because she has never prescribed that much PPI and was fairly certain they wouldn't work as I had almost no LES pressure.

Take care,
Bill

Hoping this is seen and responded. My number as 192 episodes. However, I was worried maybe I'd messed up the test because I'd made myself burp several times to feel better and also honestly because I was afraid the test wouldn't show how bad I had it. Also, at home during the day, I was in my only comfy chair which is a recliner permanently stuck almost all the way back because it's broken. I tried to perch in the chair frequently but I'd say there were several hours reclined. Yet, I was told by two primary Surgeon's nurses that even if that influenced it a bit, there's no way I could have manufacture almost 150 over average. I had the mamnometry too, and while swallowing was normal, it showed I had abnormal esphogeus/valve because it's short (higher placement). Surgeon explained that it mean it's resting pressure is good, but once I eat anything, the stomach contents push it open because of high placement. The endoscopy was fine with possible hiatel hernia but couldn't confirm. Had Barium swallow with hamburger, but he didn't go over it - assuming it was fine. Prior to testing, I'd been on high amount of Pantoprazole (3x a day) and tried others, but still couldn't shake completely the hoarse throat. I'm scheduled for Fundoplication on 12/23 and just so wanting to make sure I'm making the right choice.

Hi
I had over 211. Mixed between day/night. I had the test done 2x, a year apart. Both tests were over 200. Tried high dose of PPI for over a year, but it didn't work.
Just had the Nissen done the week of Thanksgiving. All is going ok- as expected. Hopefully after all the healing is over I will feel much better.

I was diagnosed with "greater than the upper limit of normal", which was 86 episodes. Normal is considered anything below 73.

The majority were acid - 53 out of 86.

Longest reflux episode was 4.5 minutes. Normal range is anything below 9 minutes.

My DeMeester score was 9.37 - anything below 14.72 is considered normal.

Confusingly it goes on to state in the report from the hospital under Impedance, that I had 118 gastric refluxes in all.

Overall my reflux episodes were considered normal and not abnormally high.

Have to say reading this has made me super curious to see what my ph test results are broken down. My local hospital do not do manometry and 24 ph testing - I had to go to another hospital - so the results were given to my surgeon just a few days before Christmas. It's a long story - saw the surgeon before the results came in - but he called to confirm I was going to get 270 degree fundoplication early next year - and that my test showed I have massive reflux. I'll be asking on my pre-op appointment!

Wow, just realized I didn't answer Pink!

My LES pressure was basically 0.

Take care,
Bill
