Hello, I've been dealing with Gerd for the last 6 months, and trying to control symptoms with lifestyle changes alkaline diet etc. I want to ask you, what are your symptoms? How does your heartburn feel? Is it pain or burning? And is it in the middle of the chest? Thanks!

When mine started to be noticeable, I had what I could call a fluttering feeling in my chest. That said, I thought it was my heart. It wasn't. It turned out to be a hiatal hernia, esophagitis, and GERD. Three endoscopies revealed Barrett's esophagus.

I'm not familiar with the Alkaline Diet, but I was told to avoid chocolate, tomatoes, citrus fruits, fatty foods, peppermint, and stuff like that because they tend to aggravate things more.

I hope this helps a little.

Thanks. The thing is that, how do we know if esophagitis is healed? When the symptoms become less and less i guess?

That seems reasonable, but an endoscopy would tell for sure. I followed the 'things to avoid' list very closely after my first one. The second one showed it to be gone if memory serves, so the answer to your question is probably yes. Not doing certain things should help.
