I've been looking for a local surgeon to do my nissen, but I've been having a problem finding a Doctor who. A, understands LPR and B. is shied away from my previous TIF.

Does having the TIF done really change the way surgeons do the nissen or is it all in their heads? yeah

Also, if anyone could recommend decent surgeons. I'm willing to fly anywhere in the US.

My gastroenterologist referred me, but the jury is still out on how everything will turn out. I'm six weeks post-Nissen.

To be honest, I'm not sure what a TIF is. :(

My thoracic surgeon, Dr. Nathaniel Soper, was involved in the TIF Respect study and performed some of those procedures. He does not recommend it, he prefers the NF, which he has done over 1500 of. With his expertise, I think he might be the guy you are seeking out TheSiXness. He is located at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, which is in downtown Chicago, an easy commuter train ride from O'Hare Airport. There is a skyway to a hotel if you choose to have surgery and recover for a few days in town. He is also the chairman of the department of surgery, so highly regarded, even by his peers.

Northwestern Memorial Hospital is part of the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University.

I'm only day 11 post-op, but doing better than most from what I can tell. I did considerable research on surgeons before choosing him. My original plan was to go to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, as I have family there. But I live in the far northwest suburbs of Chicago, so I was excited to find Dr. Soper.

by the way - I have heard that following TIF, you may need an open Nissen. While researching TIF vs. NF, that is what I heard from others. Regardless, Dr. Soper is the guy to do it, if you can make it to Chicago.

Good luck!

Chicago is about 3 hours away! I'll look him up. An open nissen doesn't sound so great, but if it helps me join the army... I'll do anything.

Our drive was 3 hours, as we were forced to drive during rush hour both directions. It was sheer terror for me following the surgery. Never again - I'll spend the night before to avoid the drive in the early AM. I'll hang out at the hospital until after the evening rush hour. It's about a 60 mile drive from my home.

Wish I had sought out surgeons, but going to Chicago was probably unreasonable for me. *shrug*

Dr. Fisicella at Loyola Medical Center is a great nissen/swallowing disorder surgeon as well. He did my 1st redo and was the one to find out what was wrong with my 1st nissen.

They also have one of the top GIs specializing in barretts care there.

Take care,
Bill

My surgeon was incredible and has awesome communication skills. He did my boyfriends bosses nissen too and he was also happy with him. Toledo ohio has some great doctors. I feel like our whole city is made up of medical professionals.
