Hi:

For the past six months, on and off, I have been having stomach issues, including acid reflux. Went on nexium, did not help, then, for a month, went on protonix, which did help a bit. I am off all meds now. My symptoms are: dry mouth (while at the same time seems like extra saliva in throat, need to clear it), scratchy red throat, slight acidy throat, post nasal drip, my breath is probably not fresh either. Anyways, is it possible I have strep throat? Or, is my throat not feeling well due to post nasal drip or allergy or sinus infection? Seems like my nose is drippy a lot and my eyes too. Feeling overall blah. i really do not eat a lot of bad trigger foods--no alcohol, no chocolate, no spicy food, no deep fried stuff. I am not sure if i should go back to my gastro doc to get an endoscopy, or, see an ENT. I was planning on seeing my primary doc to see which specialist would be best to address all my symptoms. My diet is bad though, I do not eat enough food, I am very stressed, underweight, not drinking enough water, no exercise. I also have ankylosing spondylitis, so inflammation is present everywhere.

I have made an appt with a local nutritionist. But, i think she will charge a lot of money to construct a plan for me (food plan, vitamins, supplements).

Appreciate comments, thanks...

Could be allergies or food intolerances causing problems, dairy seems to give me lots of problems but its hard to pinpoint any culprits. I get the dry mouth and dry sore throat too, but I have diabetes and that could be the cause for me. I had the fundo surgery two weeks back so I'm still healing but hoping some of these symptoms will disappear with time.

When I had similar symptoms, prior to my surgery, I actually went to both and ENT and a Gastroentrologist.

I am glad that I did not just go to the ENT because his diagnosis was wayyyy off. I had a hiatial hernia, but he was convinced that I was mouth breathing at night due to a deviated septum and needed sinus surgery. The mouth breathing was siphoning out all my stomach contents. (talk about a case of confirmation bias)

Well the Gastro ended up being way more right and I guess the moral of the story is, always get a second opinion, or dont go to a quack ENT like I did. I need to find another one because my post nasal drip is still causing some issues after my surgery for the hernia and nissen.

I would rule out strep with your doctor. Im told if you have acid reflux it affects your sinus and mucus from your sinuses effect acid reflux. Could you take an allergy medicine like claritin or allegra and i would also take gaviscon for refux especially before bed. i hope this helps. feel better soon!!!!!
