Hi everyone
I'm not sure if I have gerd or lpr, but I have throat burning most of the time, and heartburn which gets worse in the evening. My tongue is sore too.

I've been having heartburn for one month now, endoscopy was normal. But I also have lost 5 pounds. I know I've been anxious and depressed about he heartburn, but I'm not sure I should be losing weight. No matter how much I try to eat, the weight has not been put back on. I was put on omprazole, but only tried it for 1 week before stopping.

Is it normal to lose weight while suffering from gerd or lpr? Thanks so much.

Many people with GERD/LPR lose weight however, stress may be a cause for weight loss also. Was there a reason why you did not try the omeprazole for only a week?
You may notice a difference in a few days  omeprazole may take up to  two weeks to work.

Thank you for your reply. I thought the omeprazole was not working and I was worried about the bone issues associated with long term use. So I stiopped. I thought I would try some other ways of dealing with it first, but it's been hard.

I didn't realize omprazole could take 2 weeks to kick in. The insert said 4 days, I think. If I cannot control it, I will try the omprazole again. But I do worry that I will never be able to get off of it.

hi alf,
i would see what you are eating to see what you trigger food or drink might be. also kitt is right, stress can cause a reflux flare up. if you feel omeprazole does not work you can try pepsid, zantac which is supposed to control reflux for about 6 to 12 hours depending on your bodies response. you can also take mylanta or gavisvon for immediate short term relief. you can also take an h2 blocker (zantac) with mylanta. if you cannot get yout reflux under control and continue to lose weight i would see your doctor.
good luck and feel better.
