Hey Bill or Denise or Tony or Laurie or anyone else with a Nissen, do you get those weird spasms in your stomach where it feels like you are either going to reflux or burp but your stomach just squeezes and you can kind of feel your wrap tighten?

I have been getting this a lot lately, but I remember I had it most often in the beginning stages of surgery. My surgeon told me it was just gas but I don't really hear too much about people experiencing this. Just wondering if its normal. It used to hurt when I was in the first few weeks of healing because it would then give me hiccups, but it doesnt hurt so much now as it is kind of annoying and worrysome because I don't know what my stomach is doing. I kind of thought it would have gone away by now, but maybe its normal?

Yup, I get that once in a while. It's almost like it takes my breath away for a second and feels like a sort of unfinished burp...like an involuntary burp but air doesn't come up with it. Its more of an annoyance than worrisome for me as it catches me by surprise. It certainly doesn't happen as frequently as it used to...I chalk it up to the wrap finally relaxing and trying to function normally to allow air to escape. I'd love to be able to burp again!

Take care!

Thanks Tony! I was hoping you would put in your 2 cents. I always associated that feeling with reflux since every time I would burp everything in my stomach would come up with it.
No air is coming up now, so that is my reassurance that I am not refluxing, but it still is a bit uncomfortable.

You described it to a T! I just wonder if this is one of the annoyances that come with having a wrap

I get them also, but I am only 18 days out. They do not hurt, just feels like my stomach is moving around in some weird positions. It is the part that makes me feel abnormal. I cant wait until I go a day without thinking I had my insides moved around. That will be cool.

I think it's definitely just one of the temporary annoyances that come with the procedure. What's good to think about when you jump to associate it with reflux is that it's NOTHING like the reflux you used to have...so it can't possibly be reflux, right? ;)

I guess the way I rationalize it, because it feels like reflux, is that if NO air is coming up, then nothing else is either.
You would think that air would be the first thing that would come up with a squeeze. I think what we are feeling is just all that pressure the air is putting on the top of the wrap.

SO weird!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder if it will ever stop?

Hey, its better than the acid bath my vocal chords were in, and its a better thing to deal with long term. A little stomach movement is ok as long as I can talk
