Hi ,

I had my toupet fundoplication yesterday but I still feel that I have reflux. My mouth and tongue don't feel right and my throat feels quite muccusy. I keep getting a warmth in my chest and throat just like before surgery.

My surgeon assures me that it's not reflux but I just thought that I would feel a lot better than I do.

Does it take a while for the fundoplication to work? I guess I wanted it to work straightaway and the results to be instant.

Of course I've got the usual pain in my shoulders and stomach where the stitches are and I know that these pains will disappear over the next few days.

So if anyone as been through this procedure and as any ideas on how long it took before they felt the benefits could you let me know.

Thanks

Maria

What you are feeling is quite normal following the surgery. It will ease up as the days go by. Get lots of rest! Take tiny sips of water as often as you can. Hang in there!

Like Laurie said, that is a very normal sensation.
Your wrap is going to swell over the next week or two and sometimes the swelling is uneven and some reflux comes up.

The esophagus is dumb too, it only can feel a few sensations so everything kind of feels like reflux...I cant even burp most of the time, but my esophagus still burns on occasion like I have heartburn...its just stupid and doesnt know how to express itself properly :)

You should not even begin to worry. Just relax. I know easier said than done, but really try to relax and just let your body heal you have been through a lot

Laurie and StephanieJean

Thanks for your replies. It's so good to hear from people who've been through all of this.

I guess I just need reassurance.
