Hello
Was diagnosed with GERDS/ hiatal hernia in Aug 2013. It comes and goes and constant shortness of breath and chest pain. I also experience difficulty swallowing, well I can swallow it but it seems as if it gets stuck at the base of my throat; however, when I do get it down its only a matter of time before it comes right back up. I feel bloated quite frequently as well. I am constantly running back and forth to the ER when that happens (chest pain and shortness of breath) because chest pain is something to be taken very seriously. It scares me even though I know they will do nothing to help me when I get there. I feel if I'm dying I'm better of there then home alone. Has anyone tried curing this holistically/ naturally or know anything about how to do it? I would like to go that route if anyone knows anything about it.

Welcome to the community Meka. You have come to the right place as there are many here who can help you with your questions. I myself have GERD and LPR symptoms and have been trying to heal my body naturally in hopes that I will be restored back to normal again one day. If you would like to read about my journey it is located here (http://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=45&m=2861754). It sounds to me like you may have motility problems as well as your GERD and hiatal hernia. There are tests that you can have done to test for motility. You can also have a weakened LES that can result in food coming back up if it is not working properly. I have read that you can have your hiatal hernia fixed and have had my chiropractor adjust me for this. Whether it actually works or not, I don't know as I haven't been tested for a hiatal hernia. There are many different supplements that claim to help with GERD, but different people have different experiences. I have been going down that route for the past 7 1/2 weeks myself after getting off PPI medications. In the beginning after being off my PPI's, I experienced chest pain, but not shortness of breath. I have read other's experiences and can relate to how you must feel. Other's within this community have done different types of surgeries with success so depending on which type of care you'd like to go towards, there are plenty of people here who are willing to help.

I wish you luck on finding something that works for you to help lessen and eventually resolve these problems. The road may be longer than expected, but it does take time for the body to heal.
