I had my toupet fundoplication 6 days ago. I have hardly any pain where the incisions are they seem to be healing well. I can swallow fine and I'm eating a liquid and a very sloppy diet. I can hear a bit of gurgling sometimes probably where the wrap is. The shoulder pain as virtually gone with only slight pain when I've walked for too long. The pains I had in and around the chest have also gone.

My concern is I have a white tongue due to the acid (it is not thrush ). I was hoping that this would have started to disappear by now. I'm concerned that the wrap hasn't worked and it's still letting acid through so that's why the tongue is still white and it doesn't seem to be returning to its pink colour. I had a lot of problems with the reflux affecting my mouth and throat so the tongue returning to its pink colour would be an indication that the wrap is working.

I know it's still early days and my tongue as had 7 months of acid on it. My acid reflux only started in April due to what I have since found out was a hernia.

Could someone who's had the white tongue and then the wrap tell me if the white tongue goes and if it'll ever return to it's healthy pink colour and if so how long did it take ?

It will take some time for it to heal. Remember it takes longer to heal than it did to damage it. Also it's quite common to have a white tongue after surgery. I've had it after other surgeries and believe it has something to do with the breathing tube. Some people have a reaction to it.

I would expect it to take a few weeks for it to go away.

Take care,
