Hi all

Can anyone help?

I'm probably going on a bit. I know I'm worrying and it's still only been 19 days since my surgery.

This question is for people who've had the fundoplication.

What I want to know is can I be getting reflux because of the internal swelling? When the swelling goes down will the reflux go? It's not reflux when I eat, I can swallow fine and it's only occasionally that something feels like it's stuck. I feel that acid is still coming up as I get that acidly taste in my mouth. Is this acid or is it just phlegm or something from the wrap site?

Has anyone else had these problems after their wrap?

I had a hernia repair at the same time so I've probably got a lot of internal healing going on. How long does it take for the internal healing to subside?

Has anyone got any ideas or words of advice or encouragement.

Thanks
Maria

Hi, Maria. Welcome to the forum!

It's early after such a big and complicated surgery. Lots of healing going on, swelling and such. It takes months for things to settle down after any major surgery.

Hey there! Dont even begin to worry until at least 3 months out or more. Like Alcie said, there is a ton going on and your body really needs to adjust. I am still experiencing changes and healing even 4 months out now.

It can take 6 months to a year to really heal from all the work they have done. I still have pain near my ribs and incision occasionally.

Things do really turn around near the 2 month mark though, just give it time.

Hiya! It's still very early in your recovery. You're getting into the period of the greatest amount of swelling so you'll feel worse than you did just out if surgery. Discomfort related to healing in your esophagus feels like reflux, but isn't. Your digestive system has been through a lot recently, you'll need to be patient with the weird things you'll be feeling. I wouldn't worry too much at this point unless you are in unbearable pain.

Be well!

Thanks for your replies. It helps a lot to hear from people who've been through this. I guess I was expecting results immediately.

My surgeon says for some it takes time. It 3 weeks tomorrow since my surgery and I guess yesterday was probably my best day so far.

Hopefully it'll get better with time and I'll look back at this and wonder why I was making such a fuss.
