hi all :)

So about a month ago, I woke up one morning with a terrible stomach bug. I lasted it out, and the next day I was feeling a lot better.

However, since then, I have had recurrent discomfort in my upper abdomen which is relieved by burping, nausea, all over stomach tenderness, and minor heartburn. The main thing for me is the burping - it gets especially bad a while after I eat, however it's constant. It does relieve the pressure and pain for a while, but it always comes back. I also don't really feel hungry, but I can and do still eat the same amount as before this began. Like, the discomfort has replaced the feelings of hunger, but it hasn't impacted my ability to eat, if that makes sense.

I saw my doctor on Monday, and she said it was likely acid reflux and gave me a prescription for apo-rabeprazole. I also had a blood test, but am still waiting for the results.

I have not noticed a significant difference since taking the medication, but the doctor said to not come back for two weeks.

Could the initial stomach bug have triggered these symptoms? I was only sick for 24hrs, but I threw up a lot of bile, and I don't know if that could have accidentally damaged something or caused it in some way?

I was thinking I may also have gastritis? I'm really not sure, but I just want the constant discomfort to go away!

Does anyone have any advice, or have had a similar experience?

Follow up with your doctor in two weeks. Another possibility is hiatus hernia which will cause symptoms like you describe. Give it more time and if you don't get better after a couple months, see a GI doctor.
