I'm in agony with my throat pain, it is something I got used to with my LPR but I had it under control in the months leading up to the surgery, but it is back with a vengeance.

I'm burping so much. I have no bloat or gas pain at all so I think they are stomach burps. With my LPR the burping always led to more throat inflammation.

How normal is it to burp the week after Nissen? I am five weeks in next Tuesday and have been burping since the first week but it has increased a lot and my throat is feeling worse and worse. I'm struggling to sleep because of it.

I know it's early days yet, I'm sorry if I seem impatient but I'm in daily torment and would love some ideas. I have four weeks before I see my surgeon again.

Thank you for listening

Liz-

It's very normal with the way the nissen is done today. The floppy wrap allows for us to be able to burp and ease the severe bloating.

What exactly is your diet consisting of? It's possible something in that is causing issues for you right now.

Take care,
Bill

I had my fundoplication almost six weeks and I keep getting a sore throat and of course I keep thinking its acid reflux but I'm really not sure. I'm hoping it's got something to do with the oesophagus being irritated and I hope it goes.

I'm sure someone will post a reply who's been there and had the same symptoms and tell us it goes in time.

I'm not sure what you can take in the meantime to relieve it maybe someone will be able to help.

Are you still taking your ppi's ? If not maybe give them a try.

Just remember it's still early days and things seem to take time with all of this.

Hi Bill, well my diet is pretty tame but I am eating very little. I don't feel hungry and I feel nauseous all the time. The thing is, before the op, for about three months my LPR had subsided to the point I almost felt normal, which is why I agonised so much about actually having the Nissen. I couldnt for the life of me figure out why i was feeling better, i hadnt changed anything.

When I wake up in the morning my upper valve to my throat is under so much pressure it aches until I sit up and burp. So gas seems to be building up during the night. I'm burping more and more each day and my excruciating throat pain is back. I am not eating late or anything, and sticking to foods I am used to, mainly home made root veg soup.

Maria, do you have any problem with burping? I was asked by the doctor not to take my PPI any more and I would be happy to stay off them, since they didn't seem to help the throat problems anyway.

We seem to be in a similar time frame where our ops are concerned. Maybe the oesophagus is adjusting to the new function. I don't have heartburn much, just some very slight occasional burning feelings in the chest but not severe or prolonged.

I am so very worried. My scars haven't healed very neatly and I feel wrecked. I hope I haven't ruined my body with this op. I would have taken that side of it happily if I felt it had done the trick.

Uncomfy and very anxious.

When I had issues after my last redo my surgeon had me take Pepcid at night. It really helped my symptoms.

You can get it OTC. It doesn't have the same side effects as a PPI.

Take care,
