Does anyone know what tests they perform if I go to the er for severe reflux? Do they do an endoscopy?

Ive been to the ER twice with it, they never gave me one, all they did was blood tests for gall stones but more as routine, the symptoms arent the same. I think they will only do emergency endoscopies when they suspect an ulcer, which usually shows up as blood in stools or coughing up.

They just gave me some alkaline solution to drink and PPIs, and sent me home. Try asking at your local pharmacy if you dont already have some alkaline solution or tablets, they can give some instant relief.

Usually they will not as they need to do it on an empty stomach unless as Andy said it's an e bleeding.

They usually do blood work, maybe a ct or ultra sound, and possibly a script for meds. Also they may do an EKG to rule out heart issues.

If nothing stands out they refer you back to your PCP to be seen by a GI. If your symptoms are bad heartburn you can try baking soda in water. It has been used for many years as a home remedy for heartburn.

Take care,
