I have gastritis or... something. Gastritis was diagnosed by endoscopy LAST YEAR and I still have it despite taking Prilosec, Pepcid, and DGL. Anyway, once every two weeks maybe I get a horrible bout of debilitating pain in my middle stomach, like I've been punched or have an open sore or extreme food poisoning (although no diarrhea). Last night was one of those nights. I did nothing different from what I do every day, and I eat the same thing every day. It wasn't an acid burning, or the feeling of my stomach digesting itself. I got chills from the pain it was so bad. Usually my stomach problem dissipate a little at night and then they turn into abdominal bloating and distention, I guess because all the gas makes its way downwards. The bloating and distention at night is generally tolerable as I can pass some of the gas before bed. But NOTHING helped last night, and the pain continued until 5am this morning. I woke up at 7am shaking from the pain. I took a Xanax and at 7:50 I'm feeling a little better. I know this is a GERD forum and I don't think I have GERD as I've never had acid coming into my esophagus, just the stomach discomfort. Do these symptoms sound like anything anyone else has had? And if so, other than a heating pad on the stomach, what do you do to alleviate the pain? Obviously painkillers like aspirin won't work since that stuff actually causes stomach pain for me. I'm desperate here and all I want to do is huddle in a corner and cry all day.

I have duodenitis whish id inflammation of the small intestines, I have heard it is similar to gastritis. I have never had a battle like u experienced last night I just always have constant stomach cramps and bloatedness. I have been told not to take any of the NSAID meds which is everything accept Tylenol which does nothing at all for me unless they are prescribed. If you can go to a doctor go back with this concern or try to find a different one, I no its hard because a lot of people does not have the proper insurance to be seen to take care of these problem. I was told life style changes would be the main thing I would need to like changing my diet.

I just looked up duodenitis. I suspect I have both gastritis and duodenitis. While I often do get pain in the middle of my stomach, I also get a lot of discomfort and bloating directly to the left of my navel. And at night all the gas and air that was in my stomach eventually makes its way downward and then my lower abdomen gets bloated and swollen to the point that I look about 8 months pregnant. Very uncomfortable! I'm often able to "pass the air" at night before I go to bed but my intestines/colon end up feeling sore from all that gas. Rather than something like IBS, I think the intestinal/colon issues start in my stomach and make their way down. I think I could deal with IBS better than the stomach issues.
