I have suffered from anxiety for about 30 years. I was diagosed a few years ago with gastritis and GERD and have been on daily Prilosec for a couple of years now. When I'm feeling especially tense and the anxiety gets rough going, the GERD symptoms increase and I take Tums in addition. I've heard alot about Nexium. Does anyone have input on Prilosec versus Nexium and how well it's worked for them?

Have you tried H2 blockers like Pepcid and maybe something for the anxiety? Sorry, I guess you are already taking something for it.

As far as Prilosec vs Nexium, many just say try the PPI that's cheapest and try the next cheapest until you find one that works.

Your post is interesting though because you point out possibly your greatest trigger. Are you working on the anxiety as a cause for the gastritis?

My husband has taken all the meds for this awful disease. Dexilant was the miracle med for him, and if you suffer from anxiety and feel a (lump in the throat), a gastroenterologist in akron ohio suggested a med for these two specific symptoms. It is called amiltryptaline. They prescribe this med for anxiety, also ativan helps you relax from anxiety also.
Hope this helps you.

Hi there. My daughter takes Nexxium. She tried Prilosec first, but it didn't work. Her doctor told me that the two drugs have the same type of acid blocker. The Prilosec is more diluted and there are additives in it that can cause bothersome side effects for some people. There is no generic form of Nexxium so it is expensive! If you have insurance with price tiers, it is the highest one. My insurance company offers a mail order prescription service and the pills are about $23 a month that way, which isn't bad. When I first purchased it at my local pharmacist it was about $80 with insurance. Without insurance I think the price was around $120 for a one month supply. It works really well for my daughter. She also stays away from acidic and spicy foods. Occasionally she still experiences symptoms of GERD.

Robotaz, I am taking Effexor XR 150mg for the anxiety. I also take Ativan as needed, but only take it when I absolutely feel necessary as it helps, but I hate the way I feel later. I was going to counseling but had to stop after the first of the year as my insurance deductible starts over and doubled this year and I can't afford it. I exercise at least every other day and eat healthy. It's just in my genetic make up to have anxiety as I've had it since my early 20s. I do fine for awhile then it just comes on and hangs out awhile and drives me crazy. Sorry, I'm rambling now, but thanks for your reply.
