when i was 15 i was diagnosed with poly cystic ovarian syndrome and was put on glucaphage and bc. shortly there after my menstrual cycles began to slowly disappear. within a year it stopped all together. i began gaining weight and felt just fatigued all the time. i went from 112 lbs to 160 by the time i graduated high school. by the time i was 20 i had gained another 40 lbs. i tried everything to keep from gaining the weight. i eat very healthy and hardly ever drink carbonated drinks. i was desperate and started atkins. all i ate were eggs, sausage, bacon, sugar free jello, and hamburgers. drinking only water and crystal light. i have always been very active even if i didn't have the energy. i am only 5'1, this weight gain was taking a toll on my body. my cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood sugar were sky high. my doctor told me to lose the weight or i was going to have diabetes and heart disease before i was 25.
well when i was 22 i had lost 50 lbs. i was so happy, nowhere near my goal weight, but i was losing. i had a ruptured cyst and had to have surgery to remove the other cysts on my left ovary. the largest was the size of a soft ball. everything was good for a little while, then when i was 23 i was diagnosed with oligodendroglioma (a benign brain tumor). i never knew it or suspected anything wrong, i had occasional migranes, but my mom suffers with them. i just thought it was something i had inherited from her. i was having seizures in my sleep and my husband drove me 60 miles away to a wonderful hospital, and the next morning, valentines day i found out i had a brain tumor. the neurologist said he believed it was benign, but wanted to remove it to do a biopsy to be safe. that may i had the surgery. in june i started my cycle again and by august i got pregnant. OMG, i was shocked, being told i would never have children, this came as a shock to myself, my husband, and our families. we had our beautiful daughter that june, she is almost 7 now, a true blessing.
skip ahead to 3 years ago, my gyno put me on maxzide to help with the fluid retention i was having, my cycle started to get off track again and i was gaining weight again. before i got pregnant i got down to 138 lbs and only gained 22 lbs with her, she was almost an 8 lber. a few months into the maxzide my gyno put me on phentermine along with the maxzide because i weighed in at 180 lbs. i was beside myself. well i have been on and off the phentermine for 3 years and have lost 42 lbs and have been able to maintain the weight, but every so often if i get off track a bit and gain some weight my cycle will stop? does anyone have similar yoyo weight with pcos. i have stopped maxzide and started lasix last month as per my nutritionist, but my primary doctor says i am far to young for that medication, i have low bp and potassium (i almost black out often because of this). she put me on spiro last week and i have gained 4 lbs, i am fatigue, and just feel withdrawn from everyone. anyone have any suggestions or ideas, i would appreciate it.
i understand spiro is for pcos, high bp, male pattern hair growth, and cystic acne. idk, but i don't want to take the wrong meds, especially one that has so many terrifying side effects.
i am clueless
