New to the boards, but from what I have read so far, it seems like there are a lot of folks on here that have experienced what I am going through now.
I started getting contraction like chest pains a few years ago. The first Dr. Said it was from heartburn, and said to stop eating spicy foods, coffee, soda, all the usual culprits. Nothing changed. They became even stronger in 2010, and my husband was concerned about a cardiac issue. The cardiologist cleared me after a stress test and gave my heart a clean bill of health. She did however send me for an ultra sound on my gallbladder and a hida scan, and referred me to a surgeon. The surgeon said it was my gall bladder as it was functioning at 24% of what it should! and scheduled surgery. This did not get rid of the chest pains completely, but they seemed to be a bit better until about 6 months ago. Now they are the strongest and almost daily. They can get so bad that I break out in a cold sweat and can't breath through the waves of pain, and it spreads to my back and up my neck into my jaw. I was referred to a G.I. Doc, who has done a barium swallow ( clear ) and an EGD ( clear, slightly irritated stomach with gastritis and a small hiatal hernia). They put me on calcium blockers, that worked for 3 weeks...then amitriptyline, which didn't work at all and caused some severe side effects. I had a manometry done last week...the initial Dr. Said that it was borderline ( almost half of the swallows showed no contraction in the lower part of the swallow), but another Dr. ( my medical care is through the VA) called and said that after reviewing the results, wants me back in for a repeat EGD and PH test. I have scheduled those for the 25th of this month, and really hope that they are able to figure out what is going on. I don't usually get heartburn, and have occasional issues when swallowing, but those are minor compared to the insane chest pains.
Am I overly optimistic that the repeat EGD Aand PH will show something?
