Hate to sound in a panic, but if I don't post this I might lose it a little, sorry ^^; I just don't know what to do. Recently my "reflux" symptoms - burning throat, sore throat and constant belching/air in throat - have hit me really hard, despite me taking the following measures.

- I take Manuka Honey to fix my sore throat, because I habitually clear my throat a lot anyway.
- I follow a strict, low-acid diet, and adopt typical lifestyle changes for reflux like raising the bed. Even the food from Koufman's diet makes me worse though.
- I have medications that reduce acid, as well as some Gaviscon Advance in a pinch.
- I take a vitamin D3 supplement which supposedly helps, but after 6 months hasn't really done much.
- I've been trying to take my mind off things with work and hobbies. I'm still on an antidepressant (Mirtazapine).

NOTHING HELPS. Every belch is agony. LPR almost finished me off just a few weeks ago when I tried to toss myself into heavy traffic. What do I do now?! I can't keep going like this when even vegetables and water make me worse..!

Have you considered the Linx or Nissen procedures?

Thanks for the replies, I'll answer them both at once. Treatments I have tried include CBT, hypnotherapy, vitamin d3 supplements, 3 reflux diets, manuka honey, aloe vera, pH 8.8 water, excercises, 5 different PPI/H2 Blocker meds, 2 different antidepressants, multivitamins and lifestyle mods like watching when I drink water. For the record, nobody has seen a hernia in me so far, and I have horrible anxiety. My symptoms began during a stressful November of 2012, and 2013 hasn't been much better for me. I don't know if stress itself is causing my problems.

Officially my doctors don't believe me but they put me down for a dual-probe (I hope) pH probe anyway because I pushed for it. I'd consider Linx only if it 100% cures LPR; I'm praying for a cure, not a control measure. Since my symptoms can't be controlled by reflux- preventatives, and since they change every so often, could they be from something other than LPR? Maybe I just have a sore ' burning' throat from clearing it a lot, which I notice more when I belch..? Just a desperate idea really, but...

EDIT: Even just now in the last hour, Gaviscon Advance and Cimetidine have failed to stop my burning throat sensation. Both meds are pretty fast acting, so they usually would've had an effect by now.

Daxter, can you describe your symptoms in detail?

For example, do you clear your throat because there is mucus in there? Is the burning throat always there? Is your voice hoarse?

Sorry for my slow replies, typing on a phone! My symptoms include:

A burning throat at random times. There's no pattern to my diet or actions; sometimes the same food can make me burn one day but not another. Even water causes it, and PPIs/H2 blockers/Gaviscon Advance can't stop it. Just recently only a second after I swallowed a single mouthful of water, my throat burned. Another example is I ate a single bite of low-fat bagel without any filling; instant burn after a second.

- Throat clearing after eating, and a tickly throat from time to time, usually right after...

- ...Belching. Constant, constant belching. If I take a sip of water, I belch. If I eat anything I belch. I belch as soon as I wake up and when I so much as stand up, or bend over, or wiggle. Again water alone causes it. The belches are strange - they go up into my throat as 'bubbles' and are released as tiny bubbles rather than one big burp. They almost always cause me to clear my throat, but they themselves don't burn. In fact sometimes they temporarily stop the burning as they move up my throat.

- A lump in the throat sensation. And yes, anxiety can cause it, but the burping causes it too.

Daxter, im in a real mess too, much like you. The dual probe ph test should show if you have LPR. Do you have any chest pain? How is your voice?

if I may ask, what are your symptoms like after eating?
For me, a few minutes after eating I feel the food sort of reach up to the bottom of my throat (a few inches below my adam's apple) and then slowly, slowly go down. I believe I also suffer from silent reflux at night. Any similarities? Or do you just feel your reflux a couple of hours after eating?
