Hello, friends.
Today is Monday, I had my Nissen last Wednesday. I have some pain in my shoulders, which I understand is from the gas, not a big problem, warmth and rubbing helps, it will work itself out.
I do, however, have paid with every swallow. Its like a punch in the chest 5 times, as it goes down the esophagus, then a boulder that hurts like hell and slowly dissolves. with every swallow, even my own spit. Is that normal?
I am on a clear liquid diet, my average day is like this: 1 cup coffee, 1 cup tea, 1 cup juice, 1 cup jello, 2 popsicle. All that spread out through the day.
I am on stool softeners three times a day, but I have not had a bowel movement since Tuesday, that is almost a week now. Is that normal? I can pass gas, no problems, but no growling, gurgling, or other sounds or sensations from my intestines.
I only took pain meds the day I cam home, which was Thursday. I have a tennis ball size knot in my belly, where I think my stomach is. I can do tiny burps.
Thank y'all for your help.

Welcome to the Wrapped Club.

Your throat and stomach can be very sore for quite some time after this surgery. Some of the throat pain can be from the tube in there during the surgery.

The top area of my stomach was visibly swollen also. since you are passing gas your insides are working, but without solid food it may take a few more days for a bowel movement. Keep with the stool softeners and stay hydrated.

Ice and heat on the swollen area can help too.

Take care,
Bill

I have not have experience with the surgery yet (but will in a few weeks). I suffer with IBS as well as GERD. If you are not satisfied with no BM try: equal parts of milk of magnesium and prune juice. Like 2 tablespoons each mixed like a shot and drink. Its much easier on your stomach (well I think it is). Make sure you drink at least 8 oz of water with it (more if you can handle it). That should do the trick. Be careful of the dehydration though.

I hope you are able to get some relief soon! Best of luck!

I thought of all the different ways to get that going, but the problem still is that I can only take tiny sips at a time. I called the doc, and he said to wait. or use enema. I just keep sipping all day long, and hope for the best!
