Im not sure if this has anything to do with this horrible reflux or the esophagus damage but for a few weeks now ive been getting this lump in my throat. When I swallow I can feel it. It feels almost like its a mucus ball that got stuck and wont go away. When i get the lump in my throat i drink a lot of water to see if i can get it broke up. Is this another symptom if the gerd? What are some suggestions to get it to go away?

Yes the lump feeling is a very common symptom of GERD. The only thing I know to get rid of it is to control the reflux and let the esophagus heal.

Take care,

Thanks. I guess I will have to just continue to wait for my surgery.

Look up globus hystericus... it has a lot of info about feeling a lump in the throat. My husband has had this for several years and had the nissen 3 weeks ago. He still has globus and has to wait for a while, but wants his doctor to dialate the area to help relax the feeling. He use to take big bites of food and swallow w/o much chewing, he said it stretched his throat and helped with the discomfort. I don't suggest doing that, however the lump in the throat feeling runs my husbands life.
Hope this helps, take care.
P.S He was prescribed amitryptaline, it is for anxiety, but his gastroenterologist said it helps with the globus too. It has not helped a great deal, but a little.

The globus feeling was my first symptom and it is horrible to live with. They gave me ativan for this which helps, but i would never recommend taking this drug. It presents alot more problems.

I was given ativan for my stomach (IBS) issues a few months ago but I only take it as needed.

Ok this is annoying... the mucus lump in my throat is getting very annoying. I woke up choking because of it. It was gone for a few days but its back again. I tried drinking lot of water and stuff and trying to cough it out 9it worked last time). Now nothing is working!!! Should this feeling go away after surgery when i have it in a few weeks? What can I do to get some comfort?

Hi. Gaviscon Advance has helped me with my globus, dysphagia and heartburn and with nighttime reflux.

This may be dumb but whenever I get that bad sensation, I try really hard not to think about it. When I'm preoccupied by the feeling it seems to get worse. However when I try to focus my mind on something else or even something as simple as talking to someone, the feeling seems to go away. At least temporarily.
