Just recalling how i got sick. about just 5 months ago i was what you can call a completely healthy person. Firstly it was a fever and cough, but stomach problem had definitely also started as i had bad mouth taste but i thought it is because of fever. Went to physician and felt better after medication. But the mouth taste didn't improved. The fever came back after about a week and was diagnosed with malaria. Again, got well after medication, but i didn't go to the doctor as he had asked to after 5 days of medication. He also gave me some medicine for stomach issue.

Then for about a month i kept feeling mild temperature and went to doctor many times, then finally it went away. One day i started feeling nausea, i am allergic to peanuts so i thought this was the reason, i had vomit a couple of times. Slowly nausea and bad mouth taste grew and started having burps, but they were not constant or frequent. I remember getting breathless one day when i rapidly went up and down stairs twice to get something urgent and going breathless. I noticed my burping increased after that. Went to see a homeopathic doctor next day, heartburn, nausea and mouth taste were cured, but burping went on increasing.

and this was the start of my misery. Went again to doctor to get my burps cured, but nothing worked. Then i read on net that GERD can cause frequent burping and sometimes a burping disorder called aerophagia occurs. And there is no proper cure for it. So it is 5 months now i haven't slept a peaceful sleep i used to. I fall asleep burping, and when i wake up it feels like air is stuck in my esophagus, and i have to force burps to get rid of it. I tried to control air swallowing, like eating slowly, don't take carbonated drinks, chocolates etc and all that things mentioned that can cause air swallowing or GERD. But the burping issue hasn't been solved. It keeps on getting worse.

There was a period though, when my burping reduced or stopped for some time, it was when i was going through severe cough which lasted for 3,4 weeks. It went really bad, my throat started hurting so did my chest. But when i recovered from that , burping was back with a vengeance. The last 2 weeks of my cough were also when i was going through a trauma, started having difficulty in breathing, and noise in breathing at night. Cough stopped, but breathing difficulty continued, i couldn't take a deep breath, finally had my first panic attack.

Doctor gave me some medicine for anxiety, so i felt better for some days but burping didn't reduce. And then this bloating also started. And i am suffering, still trying to figure out the root of my sickness. I am tired now, why did everything went wrong. Sorry for this long story. Really upset today.

I think a lot of people here can feel your pain and sympathize. I see you've given up carbonated drinks as well as chocolate. How is the rest of your diet?

I've also limited the use of milk and vegetables like cabbage, peas etc. Avoid spices as they give me heartburn.

I sometimes feel like I am missing out on my life also. I do the best I can to manage my GERD and IBS symptoms. Some days are better than others. I miss certain foods, but the ones I miss I probably should not be eating anyways. I just have to hope that there will be better treatments in the future for us. For now I have found some replacement foods that are pretty good. The ones I miss the most are tomato sauce, coffee, beer (I can drink rum in water, it isnt the same and I only drink occasionally now)and chocolate. I follow a gluten free, low lactose, Low FODMAP diet. It has forced me to get creative with meals but it has also caused a lot of frustration when going out to eat or attending events.

I miss my life too. I miss not having to time when I eat so I can take carafate and miss having to check the time every time I take a carafate (4 X day) so I know if I can eat. And when I can I am usually not hungry.

I miss a lot too. I pray it will get easier for us.
Hope everyone is well and having a pain free day.
