I am on Carafate and Aciphex for heartburn and have been for several months.

It is usually controlled except that there will be frequent times when every time I exhale my breath burns me tongue.  My breath doesn't feel hot when I breath on my hand, just my tongue and occasionally thoat also.

Anyone have any experiences like this?  Medical tests aren't an option because of finanical reasons.  So my doctor is willing to try things with medicine.  I have read that too low stomach acids can cause similar feelings so don't want to take any OTC medicines without talking to my doctor but can't do that till April.  If anyone has also read that, will you let me know.

Hi,

My first symptoms were a burning tongue and lips, then the inside of my mouth started to change colour at the back, and turn inflamed - this was the beginning of LPR. Try getting a PH & Impedance test and this will tell you what really is going on.

My throat and the roof of my mouth has been sensitive and very itchy for the past month or so. At first, my doctor said it could be allergies but when it did not go away, he said it may be acid reflux. I admit that I am a spicy food addict. I am now trying to change my diet and lifestyle habits in an effort to get my throat back to normal. My husband likes to eat later in the evening which I found out is not good for acid reflux. The back of my throat looks red and inflamed.

have you been sleeping with mouth open? My mom has this problem of tongue burning, we'll be visiting a physician soon. She hasn't been diagnosed with GERD. She thinks it's some kind of allergy. We had our house painted recently and she suspects its the lead dust.

I suspect I do sleep with it open. My mouth is dry from medicines. Hope your mom is ok and it isn't anything too complex.
Hope everyone is well and having a pain free day.
