As i've already mentioned in my posts that i am suffering from GERD and constant bleching from 4 months. Now i'm on lansoprazole for 2 weeks. Now i have to force the burp out otherwise will keep feeling pressure in my throat and upper part of back of neck. It is like my esophagus is filled with air and the doctor keeps saying it's due to anxiety, but this is what's causing the anxiety. Could it be something related to pressure on spine? Tired of this Aerophagia. Feel something stuck in throat 24/7 now.

I have been diagnosed with a tightened or narrowing of esophagus. And no diet change is helping. Don't get heartburns usually, but liquid sometimes sour comes out from stomach when i try to vomit the air stuck in esophagus out, because the burps aren't helping, and mostly are small ones.

Here's the theory:

1. Most GERD medicines suppress stomach acid.

2. A stomach acid environment of pH3 (normal) is necessary to keep h.pylori and other harmful bacteria in check.

3. Lack of acid causes a slower digestive process, meaning food stays in the stomach longer allowing the now more prevalent bacteria to cause excess fermentation (mainly of carbohydrates), resulting in gas and bloating.

If you absolutely must take acid suppressing drugs it is recommended to do the following:

A. Take a probiotoc.
B. Take digestive enzymes.
C. Cut seriously back on carbohydrates in your diet.(always a good thing anyway)
D. Chew your food longer. There is a mild bacteria (the good kind) in saliva that helps begin the digestive process. If you eat too fast or don't chew long enough, it never gets a chance to do it's job. With lower stomach acid decreasing the effectiveness of your normal digestive process, it becomes even more important to get your food into a "slurry" state by chewing longer before you swallow it.

:-) yeah thanks rjdriver sounds 100% right I take healthy start probiotioc was on 40 mg protonics, trying to wean now am on 20 mg 2 weeks ever since reduced dose to 20 had acid gas every day sucks, also as we age we produce less acid. my GI weaned me off in 4 weeks said that was the longest he taken to wean someone off. Been on and off for 5 years. always trying to get off last time had pain just swallowing water bad stomach pain low appetite. So had to go back on 40mg 2x day, now 20 mg a day for 2 weeks wondering when i should cut dose in half? Any suggestions

I don't know if it is due to aerophagy or narrowing to esophagus or constipation that my esophagus feels to be filled with wind no matter i have bloating or not. I've read that cervical spinal blockage cause air to go to stomach through inhalation. I was wondering if it's happening in my case.

Trying to avoid carbs, and also trying to lose some weight, perhaps it'll help with the bloating. But i've seen many thin people suffering from it. And green vegetables and potatoes definitely make it worse for me.

And i've caught myself breathing with mouth from previous few nights, i wake up at night and find my mouth wide open. Sleep apnea, perhaps? Or perhaps the suffocation makes me try to breath from mouth during sleep. Causing more bloating and burping
